Is this normal wear for a barrel block on a new gun with only about a hundred rounds thru it? Is maiden voyage and I did a once over and cleaning and found this... See pic. Is that normal?

The part you're referring to is the Locking Block. http://smith-wessonforum.com/smith-wesson-m-p-pistols/341115-m-p-parts-identification.html

The "wear" you see isn't wear at all. It's a casting mark from the manufacturing process. Some have it and some don't. My .40 has a similar mark, but my .45 doesn't.

It is nothing to worry about.

I've seen it called a locking block, barrel locking block, barrel block..... I went with one... LOL. It seems after much looking on net and taking to friends I can calm down and shoot on. Thanks for continuing to set me at ease. My shield has over 1k round thru it and it doesn't have it so seeing that for the first time freaked me out a bit.

I completely understand. I probably would have thought the same thing. I've just seen a bunch of M&Ps now and you're not the first to ask this question.

It's one of those things that we see on guns at this level. People don't like it when I say this, but the M&P is a relatively cheap gun. If it were a $2K gun, I would expect everything to be polished and perfect. At this price point however, I don't expect that.

You will probably find more things like this on your new gun. As long as it goes bang, don't worry about them.

Just joined the forum to investigate this exact question. Noticed it on my 40c.

Thanks for the insight y'all!
