I just picked a S&W model 4026 from a gent on the Arfcom E&E. I sold my 1026 a few years ago in a fit of stupidity, but always liked the SIG style decocker. When I saw this pop up for sale I couldn't think of a single reason not to buy another 3rd gen (this makes a bakers dozen). I know there were not a lot of these made and most out there are ex KC police guns. I have a 4006 so extra mags are not an issue. Any input on this gun would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 1076 and a 4536 , both with the side decocker . I don't shoot them much , more of a novelty . I wouldn't mind adding a 4000 model to the collection .

You might want to visit Midway . They have the side decocker assy's for sale , at least they did a little while ago . If something happens you are out of luck going to S&W for parts .

I found a 5926 cheap in a local police gun store. The 9/40 frame decockers seem like an afterthought compared even among the frame decockers, they only come with curved grips and I'd really like a straight grip for mine but they don't seem to exist.

I don't know if a one-piece delrin/xenoy grip would
work, but I was able to fit a set of Hogue wood grips (for
a full-size .45 TDA) to my 1076. Took a lot of trial & error
fitting of left grip panel for decocker clearance, but they
fit and work. Would be a bit more frittery to do clearance
work on the one-piece clam shell, but you wouldn't be out
too much $$ if it didn't work out...

I missed out on a deal a few years back to buy one. At the time, I was looking for an alloy frame 4013 or 4003. I so wished I had picked it up. I love the decocker frame guns.

The 4026 was my first issued duty gun. I wasn't able to buy it when we sold them, but a former coworker and I are working a trade for the 4026 he carried.
And I agree about the gun's Sig style decocker... Carrying it made the transition to the SigPro 2340 easier with similar controls.
