Here is my newest addition -- a Model 19-4 6 inch from around 1978. I bought it from a gentleman who had taken it in trade for a high-end 1911, and wasn't a revolver guy. He said he had been told it was unfired, but couldn't swear to it. Upon receiving it, I could tell it had been fired due to a slight bit of flame-cutting under the top strap, but it has been fired very little. As you can see, it also had the dreaded "slight turn line". All the better as I use all my revolvers the way they were intended to be used. :)

It has the 3-T's, but I can't tell if the grips are original to the gun or not. They're very nice, but they don't seem to have the typical shellac-type finish as S&W grips of this era.

As usual, I probably overpaid, but I'm pleased with the purchase. It did come with a S&W wood presentation box (which obviously is not original to a Model 19), so that helps somewhat.

I may have to get a letter on this one. Upon removing the grips, there are two hand inscriptions on the grip frame -- looks like they were done with some type of sharp tool. They say "GDC1656" and "65277RDS". A letter may shed some light on what these might mean. If anyone has a thought on what these could mean, please share.

Here's a couple of pics.

Pencil or hand engravings I have found generally indicate a police case number or the like…. A barbaric practice …. Just record the serial number and tie an evidence tag on it in my opinion. But here, if that's the case, someone was kind enough to do it under the grips where you can't see it.

Most of the 6" Model 19s I've seen had the Patridge front sight. I prefer your red ramp.

I've had two in nickel and one blue 6" M19's over the years. All were red ramp / white outline. The blue one was a M19-3, both nickel ones were M19-5.

Never seen one with a Patridge sight and 6" barrel - are you sure?

I thought about that, but everything (especially the finish) is so nice , I can't imagine it sat in an evidence locker for any amount of time. But who knows. ;)

I got the Model 19 to the range for the first time this morning. I don't have to tell you all how accurate a 6" Model 19 is. Here was the results from the first cylinder. This was three 158gr. 38 Special FMJ, and three 158gr. 357 Magnum FMJ, fired at a paper target from 15 yards. The rest of the time I shot 38 Special. What a joy to shoot!

I bought a NIB 6" 19-3 over 50 years ago. It had two T's, the front sight was patridge, which I painted backside of with bright orange model airplane paint. I had a very good action job done on it. It went to work for about ten years off and on. My brother saw it and wanted it and I sold it to him for $100.00, a little less than what I paid for it. About 35 years later he asked me if I wanted it back. Uh,yeah! I've had it back for about three years now and still enjoy shooting it. You found a nice one. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have mine since I got it back.

All of mine have been red ramp / white outline with the target trigger and target hammer. Maybe the cheaper ones came with Patridge sigts?

Bought this one Tuesday. I already have a 13, 65, and 66 so this one fit right in. 19-2 from I believe 1967. I also paid too much but it filled a hole, I had money in my pocket, and it was there where I could inspect it. It has some small blemishes but timing and lockup were outstanding. Therefore it came home with me. My kind of gun. Good quality shooter.
