Here's a pic of a new addition - my husband's "Father's Day" gift from me!

I finally got around to taking some pics of it.

US Army Model 1917, shipped October 1918. Next to the revolver is a 3 compartment ammo pouch for the half moon clips, stamped R.H. Long 6-18.

I think it may be an arsenal rebuild (??).. in addition to the serial number, it's got an extra set of larger matching numbers stamped under the barrel, back of cylinder, crane, & yoke.

What a great gift! He's a very lucky guy. I'm certain that he will enjoy shooting it. I know I love taking mine to the range. Great picture of an equally great gun.

I don't see the humor in your comment about the ribbon. In fact I find it offensive!!!!

It is to bad that a beautiful and clean
feature of nature has been been hijacked
as a symbol of a narrow polical subculture.

I refuse to view a set of rainbow colors
as a "gay" thing.I also do not personaly care
about someones sexual orientaion, its not my
business.

Great 1917,I just aquired a 1946 vintage.
It seems very modern compared to your fine
warhorse.

Here are 2 outdoors shots of the same gun... with a close up of the half moon clips and 1917 dated .45 acp ammo.

Thanks for the additional pictures. I really do like the natural lighting on you last ones.

Thanks for the pics. Nice looking 1917 and nicely composed shot. Always good to have appropriate props to add historical interest to the photos.

Nice pictures, Linda (as always).

The extra matching numbers indicate an arsenal rebuild, based on a Springfield Armory decision that all such disassembled revolvers be marked. Springfield Armory did most of the refurbishing after WWI. Sometimes an "SA" is stamped on the right front frame under the cylinder. Augusta Arsenal also did a large number of rebuilds. Their "AA" mark, when present, was located on the left side of the frame above the forward triggerguard web. Rock Island rebuilt guns can have a "RIA" stamp located as the "SA" mark was. For some reason, not all rebuilt guns were marked with an arsenal mark.

BTW, the major internal parts are also marked with the rebuild number.

Thanks, Buck!

I had read that small die sets were ordered for numbering revolver parts.

I think I've seeen a few similar model 1917's here on the forum with the "extra" set of numbers.
