New Adoptee-- S&W 624 no dash, 3" Combat Grips

Just picked this up from an Armslist sale. Apparently a one owner, NO BOX (ugh), but very nice shape. Lockup is super tight, timing is great. Cylinder gap spot on. Looks like some small rash on the grips, bottom RH. Other than that, they said it wasnt shot hardly at all. Has an F stamped cylinder. Not sure if this was involved in a recall, cant tell without the box. The grips are stamped October 10,1985. Can anyone tell if that matches up with the serial ALB-36**? Was this possibly a Lew Horton pistol?
I'm $650 deep into it. Not bad I think.

$650, not bad? Definitely not bad, haven't seen one for under $1000 for awhile. You can call Lew Horton and they'll tell you if its one of theirs and will send you a letter confirming it if it is. Really nice gun, I have a six and a four inch but am still looking for a three. If you use the search button at the top the page you can pull up earlier posts on the 624 recall. I wouldn't worry about it. Enjoy.

Excellent purchase. I emailed LH for two that I have, and Earl Minot emailed me back two "letters" attesting that they were distributed by LH.
One an ALW, the other AHT.
Great N frames in a great caliber.

To add, both mine were sent out in 1985, so the grips are likely original.

I would say it is very likely that it is a Lew Horton. There was one on Armslist down here for $850 that the guy claimed was LH. S/N was ALV17xx and I called Earl to confirm it. He wouldn't come off his price, or I would have been the new owner. Call LH at ‭(800) 446-7866‬ and ask to be connected to Earl Minot. He can confirm over the phone and email you a letter on LW letterhead. All free of charge!

S&W had over-runs when they made the Lew Horton guns which they sold retail. I have one of each. If you want to know if the gun is one S&W recalled, you just call them up. No matter what they tell you, don't send it in.
