BANG!

There is a new search sheriff in town.

Several things before we get into the good stuff.

1. The new search is located in the navigation bar directly below the forum logo in between "Advertise With Us" and "Quick Links". (Just where the old search has always been) When you click on "Search" and get the drop down menu - if you see the word Google, you need to either refresh the page or clear cookies and temp file....log out, log in, stand on one foot while pointing to your nose - until you don't see Gun Hating Google any more.

2. Don't use "Advanced Search option" - that will be the old search and you will not be happy. Just be happy and use the new search - more on advanced search options available in the new search below.

3. If you are one of the 37 people who use one of the 2 "Light Blue Skin" choices it's going to work for you, but visually not be optimal. At some point I may address this for the .00001% of our users. Tuff it out or change your skin.

4. SWCA Members - in the Private "Eyes Only" " "Secret Squirrel" SWCA areas it will be not be visually optimal but I'll get to you in much prompter fashion. This search will search SWCA areas no matter where on the forum you are - but only those with access to the SWCA areas will see results from the private areas.

5. For whatever weird reason - When I was installing and testing after making the google search box go away - sometimes the new search would not work the first time - returning a blank page. Just sending the exact search again - would permanently fix the problem. Must have needed to blow out the pipes.

6. The Forum FAQ will be updated in the near future to reflect these changes.

7. Go back and read 1-6. Then do it again - before you PM me with an issue.

*Now to the good stuff.*

~New search is cool. New search is handsome. New search will add 2 inches to your.....barrel.

~You will now be able to search n M25 and get the results you are looking for.

~When you get those results it will show display thread title, Area and a paragraph of the post result. Limited to 130,000 results per search. Refine that search with additional terms to isolate what you are looking for. M25, Model 25 and Model of 1955 will still bring unique results - but M25 will actually WORK.

~~~~~When you view the results - right on top of your searched words you will see the Highlighted word "Posts" - right next to it will be the word "Images" - Guess what happens when you click that? up to 1,000 images returned based on your search criteria - Fricken Black Magic I tells ya. While you are abusing yourself looking at that fantastic forum gun porn - click the slider button near the top of the results that says "Hiding Details". I'll let that be a surprise. Keep an old sock nearby.

~!~!~!Advanced search - I already told you not to use any labeled "Advanced Search" the results will be as disappointing as the girl you found and brought home at 2am. Instead - once you have the results from the new search you will see a series of pull down menus that allow you to refine your search result, apply filters and generally focus the results to what you were looking for. These pulldowns will be what is visually awkward - but still useable for the Light Blue Brigade.

I've been up for a while, I'm going to shower and take a nap. Post issues you have in this thread. I might not review them for a bit - but I will.

The search itself is magnificent.

As to the colors not being so great if you're one of the small number who use the light blue "skin" (never heard it called that before), well, I am one and the only problem is there's a small yellow text, usually one word, above each result that is hard to read.

Seriously, I am surprised that most posters here use one of the dark blue "skins" (still never heard it called that before). As to me, a color challenged old guy it is really, really ugly and hard to read.

But I don't think the new search is really a problem for me with the light blue-if it becomes so, I can just go to the bottom of the page and put the ugly (to me) blue on, right?

I wonder if the majority of those using the blue just think that's their only choice-never looked all the way down to see how much more pleasant the light blue is. Much easier on the eyes-at least on mine.

Oh well, please keep the light blue as an option for the few of us.

Yeah, it kinda works. I have to admit, I had not problem with the old way. I actually like the old Advanced search. It allows searching by forum and by user.

I tried to do a search by the user using the new system and got weird results. That's OK, the old one still works for that.

The new one is better if you just type in a subject. It does return better results than the old one.
