I was at my LGS yesterday and looked in the bottom shelve and there was a LNIB 5906 with adjustable sights and two magazines, all in the original box. I picked it up fondled it and had to put it back.......I couldn't pay the $600 they were asking. Now I'm thinking about going back to get it but I think it's overpriced by $200. What do you guys think?

There are two at the LGS here, and they're both priced at $639.00. Both are less than stellar examples...
The going rate here is way above fair market value. For everything.

I think it's a very fair price based on market value.

Price a SIG LNIB or a nice INOX Beretta 92 and see for yourself.

That being said, offer him $500 cash and see what you can get it for. If its $550 that's still a good deal.

I've bought a few LNIB 3rd gens for $385 to $450 just through patience and/or luck, but that doesn't mean it's the norm or what you should expect.

If you think it's over priced make a offer you feel fair. You either walk out with it or you get thrown out of the shop. You have to be happy with the price., but it does sound fair.

I know a guy that just bought an Ithaca/SKB SxS shotgun for $800 or so in mint condition. They're great guns, not necessarially collectible, but very nice. I think this gun new sold for about $400.

I've seen them sell for $1000+.

Is that kind of pricing out of line? He'll no. In fact, most of the better side x sides of similar quality sell for $2000 or so. The equivalent of a Glock, which might be a Stoeger coach gun, sells for around $400 or so. I'd much rather have the Ithaca/SKB any day.

I used to have this, but I think new 5906's went for $600 or more when still being produced (new). Finding one NIB or LNIB today at that price again, seems like a bargain.

opaul, I would grit my teeth and buy it. Or not grit my teeth. Either way though, go for it.

My personal experience is that I've been looking for a like new 5906 with its box for six+ months now and I can't find one I want for any price.

If I came across that deal here in PA I would buy it. That's what I paid for my 5905 with its box and only one mag and I would do that again all things considered.

Go for it and then post pictures for us... I'll bet it looks great!

Guns made from kitchen plates are $600 bucks. A NIB hunk of real American Steel for the same price? If you can afford it, don't let it go. You might not find another anytime soon.

If you plan on shooting the gun I'd pass on it. Why pay the extra for a NIB Gun if it is not going to be NIB right after you buy it. There are nice used ones around in the $400 price range.

Besides, I'm not a big fan of the adjustable sight versions.

FYI - When S&W discontinued their 3rd Gen guns a few years back, I bought a brand new 5943TSW for $349. If this gun has been sitting around as long as it has, there should be plenty of room to haggle.

As stated above NIB guns bring a premium and you need to decide if you actually need or want a NIB gun. If so then $600 is a very reasonable price.

I would suggest if you want a shooter their are plenty of excellent 5906 guns avaialable for $400 to $500. These guns are like tanks and most used ones have been barely broke in good. It is reported these guns were made to shoot 35,000 + rounds and keep on ticking. I don't doubt it for a minute. Carry guns will get scratches and blemishes on the finish that in no way hurt the function of the gun.

So if you want pristine, new and shinny clean, NIB, then it will cost you.

Thanks Guys

Lots of good feedback and it does boil down to keeping it NIB or not. Like most of the good folks on this forum I suffer from S&Wantism. I already have a nice 5906 but the little voice always says get another one! That NIB 5906 would go just right with my NIB 459.
