New AR owner.

Just picked up my first full size AR its a Bushmaster 90391 ORC. Got it at my LGS for the proper price of $899.00. I got a M&P 15-22 for the holiday and it was on. I had to have a full version AR. I got lucky and found this rifle " Bushmaster 90391 ORC" can anyone who owns one please let me know of there experience. I've been on the web for a couple of days now and cant find much info on this model. Not interested in comparisons deal is already done. I would just like some helpful insights on what I can expect and what my options are.

Bushmaster make some of the best rifles, ORC is optics ready carbine which usually means it has no sights at all. It is a decent ar at a decent price.

What are you looking to do?

The trigger will take about 500 rounds to break in, oil and lube it.

I have been shooting, maintaining and instructing the M-16/AR platform since it was issued in the 60's. I still shoot and instruct them, you will find that everybody has their own opinions about certain brands. You are already ahead of the game by owning a 22rf with which you can develop your skill sets and transfer them to the cenetrfire rifle.The AR platform is IMO the most versatile platform that exists. I have ar's that range from the 22rf to the 50 Beowulf and then we go to the AR-10 which is another chapter. You have a good serviceable rifle, your "options" are unlimited. The AR platform can be "dressed up" for whatever your intended use is going to be. With the ability to change uppers with two pins, you can make your rifle anything you want it to be. Since your rifle is a flat top, good optics will be in order.....there is a lot of them on the market and your check book will be the limiting factor.

I own a Bushmaster (As a matter of fact, I have THAT BM.), a DPMS and an S&W. ar15.com is a good sight as mentioned above, but realize that 99% of what you read here is EQUALLY applicable to YOUR rifle. Keep reading here. Ask questions. You don't have to say you have a BM. It doesn't matter 99% of the time. You'll be fine.

Or is there an option for a "mini quad attachment up front? I would like to be able to mount a bi pod as well. Also how do I tell what kind of gas system it uses?

Yes. I have quad rails on all of mine. Wouldn't have one without them.

What's your budget? For an easy swap, just look for a carbine length drop in quad rail. For a longer length rail, it gets a bit more involved.

I swapped out my Sport handguards for this one. Easy swap,fits perfect and a reasonable price at around $53. They will fit yours too. The Delta ring is "do-able" by hand to get your old handguard off,helps having an extra pair of hands. You will call it a couple names getting it pulled down It helps to find the slit on your old handguards where they meet and "maybe" use your pocket knife to GENTLY split them appart. Who knows how long they have been there,it does help with a GENTLE nudge getting them split appart once the Delta ring has been pulled down. By hand you'll find they come off easiest getting half the Delta ring down and getting one side off at a time,should be top half and bottom half. No need buying a tool you'll only use MAYBE a couple times to get the Delta ring down on it's spring. This quad rail is very well made and I would buy it again.

CAREFUL with front sight if it's mounted on your gas block. It WILL melt plastic/polymer sights. Make sure they are metal.

I'm pretty sure those are the ones I've used too. If not, they are an exact knockoff. I know mine have 4 screws that hold the two pieces together even though they aren't coming apart anyway.

Those would be the ones. Mine has 4 screws,one on each corner. I think it came with a couple extra screws too and the allen wrench if I remember right. The rail covers are more of a grip style (over ladders) and there is enough to cover the whole quad rail if you wanted. Those come in small enough sections (couple inches) to use how ever needed. The quad rail is also tough enough to hold a bipod or what ever you want to mount on it. I was very impressed with it's durability,rock solid mount and the great price. GREAT bang for your hard earned $$$

Yep. That's the ones. Solid as a rock (solid aluminum) and about $50 from what I remember. Best kept secret as far as I'm concerned. I Can't imagine why the high-dollar ones are supposed to be so much better and quite frankly, I don't care to know. I'm perfectly happy with the ones I have (on 3 ARs).

Congrat's on a great rifle, I qualified on AR in the Air Force, 5.56 Nato and not the .22lr tangent they went off on later and fell in love with it. I've owned a couple dozen over the years and have found that you get what you pay for, especially in the earlier days of the AR craze. There were a lot of junk rifles in the '80's and early '90's but that has been taken care of by attrition, the poorer makers have dropped by the wayside, thankfully.
I've weeded mine down to 5 now, from an early Colt SP1 like I qualified with all the way to a 10.5" NFA, the only non 5.56 I have is a Colt 9mm. You'll quickly find out at least two things: the AR is the big boys Erector Set, you can build it up or down anyway you want and that you can easily empty a bank account with accessories.
I would take some time to think about what exactly you want to do before buying every cool looking gadget out there, it's too easy to go overboard.
If you are thinking of two different optic's for it I would suggest looking at the GG&G QD mounts, I have one for an EOTech and another on a Leupold 30mm, they go on and off fast and hold zero very well.
Your limiting factor right now is ammo, as all of us know. Good luck, stock up and practice, practice, practice.

@ Maddmax the Leapers UTG Model 4/15 Drop In Quad Rail Carbine Length sounds like the one for me as well. As of right now I really want to get some BUIS on it and go play/shoot. I've been researching them online and now looking @ metal only. Thanks for the heads up about the heat and plastic. Then I will be spending a little more time .... well probably a lot more time researching optics for it. The quad fits my needs as I want to mount flip down BUIS, scope, and/or red dot and a bi-pod.

@ Smithhound, Yes ammo is a sad factor in all this and yes I had the tacticool bug but thankfully that was on my MP15/22 and my learning curve of gadgets was fairly inexpensive......well kinda. However I was able to find out what platform I want to set up and the necessity to spend a little more for quality. So my research continues and patience will hopefully be on my side.

That rail is rock solid and will work quite well for folding BUIS. It would be better,if you have a rail on top of your gas block and put a folding iron sight on that. But if you are going scope,the quad will work just fine with the polymer sights... Still,good iron is hard to beat. Just be careful,they can also be too pricey for just laying there doing nothing like a spare tire. But it's nice having them when you need them.

I think I'm leaning toward the Burris AR 3x32. Tried one @ LGS today it was crisp very crisp. Etched black reticle or illuminated red/green. They also had a Burris AR 5x36 also tempting but the 3x32 will work for CQ as well as 100yds. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......................................
