New Bodyguard Trigger Job

I took my new bodyguard to a gunsmith to have a trigger job done on it. Boy did it make a difference. There was a spot during trigger pull that the internal tension on the trigger would let off and give you a stepped feel that my guys eliminated. He also reduced the pull to about 6lbs. It completely changed the gun for me.

Conversely he did say that it was a pain in the butt doing the work on it. The way the gun comes apart was a pain, and he didnt like the internals on it. Aside from those two phrases he didn't tell me why or what exactly he was talking about.

I'd have told him that I didn't pay him to hear his compaints about the gun, but instead to make my complaints about the gun disappear.

I can't imagine the innerds of a bodyguard are any different than any other J frame or any other S&W revolver for that matter. He either doesn't do many S&Ws or he is just a complainer. My wife used to take her car to a local mechanic that complained every time he worked on her car. One day she finally asked him if he preferred her to take the car somewhere else. He said no he still wanted to do her car repairs and he never complained again. I donno maybe they think you'll value their service or something. Hoo knows?

I see local gunsmiths doing action jobs on Smiths for $70 to $80. Well respected and known revolversmiths charge up to $150.

Ty... I think he's talking about the new, plastic fantastic BG38. I think the lockwork is totally different than the J frame that we all know and love.

Good on you for getting that trigger pull fixed! I was smoking and joking at the LGS last Saturday. They are a S&W dealer. There was a new plastic Bodyguard, a 3" IL model 60 with a funky looking barrel, an IL 640 and a 4" IL 686 in the case.

The new Bodyguard had the nicest trigger out of all of them. Not that it was a good trigger pull at all, just better than the others. You could feel the "step" in the Bodyguards pull that the OP mentions too. The pull was quite heavy too, though nowhere near as bad as the other new S&W revolvers in the case. An action job would be required IMO.

The model 60 had the worst trigger pull. LONG and HEAVY. Even in SA it must have been 8 lbs! I have no use for those lawyer triggers. Especially on a carry gun. Regards 18DAI

I have not bought one, but the Ruger plastic small revolvers impress me more than the S&W plastic J-frames. I have shot both at the range. The S&W ones just don't look like S&W -- they look sort of cheap. The Rugers look -- well put together.

I am waiting for Ruger to put out a full-size plastic revolver -- might be neat. Still, I won't be getting rid of any of my steel guns (even with the MIM parts)!
