Im thinking of a new optic for my ar. Ive had good luck with bushnell products in the past. And now they are coming out with an ar specific scope. It has 1.4x24 power illuminated reticle and a new throw down lever as they call it. for quick zooming from 1 to 4 power. I was wondering if the 1.4 x 24 would be good for most of my shooting. Which will be from close quarters out to a max of 300 yards. And I like its compact size. I really dont like the huge scopes that are out there. My ar is for mainly target competition and home defense if needed. Thoughts on this new scope and its limitations. Thanks for the time.

I currently have a Bushnell 4200 1.5-5 on one of mine.

I think that most of the time we over scope ourselves unless we are going for small targets at long range. The majority of my hunting rifles have 2-7 or 3-9 scopes on them and are left at the lowest power except for sighting in. I've shot deer and antelope at 400+ yards with the scopes turned all the way down and never wanted more power. The only time I ever turned a scope up all the way I wished I hadn't, because all I saw was antelope in the scope at 400+ yards with hardly any background.

I on the other hand am running a 6-24x42...I just took off an 8-32x42...I use my Sport for prairie dog and distance shooting at very small targets although I have shot the Bushnell 1.5 red dot on 12 inch gongs at 300...

I also have the SAME Bushnell as Grover does on my Sport and Yes Becouse of his Review of it....

I have recently found that i cant SIT still...LOL.... so am having a tuffer time at hitting sub MOE groups at 24x..... Seems i do Better at 12x or so

Funny... like Others... my 30-06 has an old redfield tracker 3-9 on it.... Never needed more that that for any Deer i shot... and some at 300yds on the move.. the deer not me...LOL

That said..... with my MSR I am Punching paper holes, or trying, the size of a Quarter at 100yds...... But had NO PROBLEM Dinging my 8" Gongs at 300yds.....

So a lizard May be safe at 100yds..... but i guarantee a Coyote or ZOMBIE is DEAD Meat at 300yds or under

LOL

Just Saying;)
