Got tired of waiting for a PC Shield and just purchased a standard Shield 9mm. Polished the ramp and slide a little and added a little lubrication. Will shoot it on Monday. Would like to put 300 to 500 rounds through it before it becomes my CC.

I don't think you'll find many (any?) people here who will recommend a PC Shield for CC. You made a great choice and I'm very sure you'll enjoy it. Did you go with the thumb safety?

Went with the safety version because it may end up as my wife's CC. It was her preference. I just leave the safety off. As far as polishing the ramp and rails, I just like to tinker with things. End result is the same as running about 1000 rounds it. Have done this to all my new purchases and virtually no FTF or FTE.

I agree. But, there are a bunch of fanboys on here who roasted me in another thread for making the same statement. Because, on Youtube videos show the port is not an issue with night vision(lol).

Top trainers like David Bowie are against the PC Shield as a carry gun. Julie Golab can run any Smith she wants, but chooses the standard Shield. She ran the PC model at IDPA BUG Nationals, but only for marketing purposes, she didn't shoot for a score.

read the article in January issue ok guns&ammo. You might change your mind. I carry mine without any issues. I love it

Read the article in the January issue of guns&ammo and you will see a different story. I carry my pc9 and love it

Guns and Ammo? You do realize they are in the business of helping their advertisers sell guns don't you? Find me an article where they are critical of any new gun. Remember that Remington pistol that was recalled a couple of years ago. Guns and Ammo loved it.

I'll take Julie Golob, David Bowie, Spenser Keepers, and Mike Seeklanders advise any day over a magazine guy.

Tell us about the low light classes you've taken with that gun or the low light gun fight you were in.

You polished the feed ramp before you shot it? Why?

I once had feeding issues with a new Kahr PM9, took it home and polished the ramp. Shot perfectly after that. I started polishing the ramp on every gun I got after that and never had a feeding issue since. Can't hurt, if you know what you're doing.

If the feed ramp was actually polished, as opposed to smoothed, it's unlikely that it will cause any damage. However, I'm a huge proponent of shoot first before tinkering.

No one is a bigger tinkerer than I. Most of my guns have had some work done to them. Mostly replaced parts due to wear or upgrades. Even so, I can't think of a single one that I did anything to before it was shot.

The problem is, if you mess with it before shooting first, how do you know if any problem is due to you or the factory?

Jeffhughes you like your gun I like mine. No big deal to me. I have seen enough videos to buy it and I did and will continue to do so.

Cool, it's just that you are recommending it as a carry gun with nothing but a magazine article and some goofballs on YouTube to back you up.

Carry what you want but don't give out recommendations you are not qualified to back up.

I'm quoting real world pros. You are quoting a marketing source. There is way too much of that already.

The videos I have watched are pros. I guess hickock and the other pros are wrong also. Let me guess you are a pro also. I know plentyof people who bought it and love it. Who are you to tell a person not to buy it ?

Cptrick3 - I bought a Shield as my first ever had gun, some said it probably wasn't the best first gun and they are probably right. But I bought it took a lesson and now have 1100 rounds through it. I also polished my feed ramp and have not had one issues with it and that includes hollow points.

I guess my point is shoot the gun put as many rounds through it and enjoy it. Don't let the less than positive comments bother you.

Carry on.

I have had the feed ramp polished on every semi-auto pistol I have owned, if I plan on carrying it. Unfortunately the retired trooper, who was a superb gunsmith that always did my work, has passed. When I was having loading problems with hollow points in my new custom LCP, I lubed the feed ramp, then wiped most of it off, and that solved the problem. I know it is a temporary fix and I would prefer the feed ramp be polished. It is blued, however, and I don't want to polish it for that reason. Polishing stainless feed ramps on carry pistols is an excellent idea.

KSDeputy, try to polish the ramp yourself then buy a bottle of Perma Blue and get back to the finish you like.
