Hard to believe that in over 40 years having my CCL I have never owned a Colt 1911 until now. Just ordered a Commander in stainless from Grabagun. Should be here next week. Funny that I worked Security for Colts back in 1976.

Keep us posted on how you like it. I'd been looking at them, but decided I prefer the look and feel of the older Combat Commanders from the early- to mid-seventies...still regretting passing on one a week ago at a gun show.

Will do. I know everyone and their brother makes these but honestly I bought this one because I wanted a genuine Colt.

IMO you can't go wrong with a genuine Colt. Their quality is very good nowadays and the stainless Commander feels and shoots good. Tell us how it shoots for you.

I have had (and carried) a Colt Commander of some flavor or another for about 20+ years. My first was a satin commander. Sadly, I was weak and traded it for a truck. My current carry is an Enhanced Combat Commander that has been modified with an Ed Brown bobtail. It is one of my all time favorite Colts.

There are many manufacturers producing the Commander line, but I keep coming back to the Colt. I do have a S&W Scandium Commander which is terribly light, but I have been hesitant to bobtail the frame for carry comfort - it seems that S&W caught on a couple years ago and it is now a standard item, bit I have not run out to buy one due to the scales instead of regular serrations on the sllide.

Good luck with your new carry gun - The commander is a fantastic carry gun.

Packed a Commander of some flavor since 1972.

Quick Commander story.
I was graduating from a large city PD in the fall of
1972. My grandparents sent me a C note as a
Graduation gift.

2-3 days before we are turned loose on the city all classes
had be completed and we were given some slack time.
I cruise over to the local gun shop with the $100.00.
Left with a Satin finished Colt Commander a box of ammo
tossed in by he owner and left with .72cents in change.

Yep. Home of the standing bear. I bought my Remington 700 bdl and Ruger convertible six there. Still have them both.

Here's my Colt.
