Here in Luzerne County you must reapply, not renew, every five years.

After 37 years carrying here and expiring next month (I was never good at math) I went to the Courthouse yesterday. As I approached the Sheriffs Office I noticed eight or ten persons of questionable character (to me) seated by a sign that read "prisoner transport".

So I sauntered into the office and inquired. Was informed all were waiting for a Permit. I would have to come back another day. This was at 3 pm and they were open till 5.

This a.m. after a CAT scan at the VA at 8 I went back to the Courthouse. At 9 I asked the gentleman in charge and he obliged.

Seems he worked handing out Marriage liscenses for 15 years prior to this duty. Told me in a year and a half he thinks he's issued more CWP than he did ML in 15 years!

Anywhoo, I'm good till 2017 and won't show you the badman photo he took. $20.00 and out the door.:D

Excellent, glad you are once again whole.

I have another 11 months before renewal, but will submit application in about 6mo. as it takes the sheriff's office a few months to process.

Renewal in MN after 5 years is the same process as a new app: CCW course, full application form, and prints. There is a slight break in price if you renew before your old permit expires. I got in a couple days late and had to pay the extra. I forgot the amount; it's not enough to break the bank, but enough to persuade you to get in there early next time.

Indiana has a lifetime ccw permit that cost me $60. If I live to be 120 it will only have cost $1 per year.

I must have a permanent type of permit. It has an expiration date of 2/29/13.

Texsas requires renewal every 4 years. There's not as much happy horse hockey as doing it the first time, but we still have to be fingerprinted: like they're going to change in 4 years!! Possibly if I shoot a finger off.

I've had a Utah permit for years, but I got a letter from the DPS saying that they would only renew my CCW card if I had a separate permit from Missouri, my home state. So why would I need the Utah permit if I already have a Missouri permit?

Oh, and regarding fingerprinting...........I work armed security, and our annual renewal involves getting printed every year........for a fast $37 fee every time. It's not about the integrity of the applicants, it's all about revenue! :(

Texas has now moved it to five years. And if you have renewed twice you can skip the refresher training and they will use your previous renewal's FPs, Shooting cert, photo etc if they have them. I will have to take renewal course next time however, so now it is once every ten years. I originally got mine in '96, so all I had to do was a couple of mouse clicks, CC for seventy bucks and I am good until 2017. :D All of this while I was working out of the country. Very quick also as opposed to new licenses which have been kind of slow so I hear.

In Alabama concealed carry permits are easy and fast to get. I did mine by mail and I had it two days after mailing it in. Here pistol permit fees go into a slush fund that the sheriff can use for any purpose so they issue a lot of them. In my county it's $20 per year. In an adjacent county I think it's only $5 a year. Renewal is by mail and usually one or two days later I have my new permit.

By the way, I've had my concealed carry permit for several years but never carry. But if I go to the range it sure is nice to just toss a pistol in the glove box with no worries.

I'll bet the % of motorists who are "packing" is higher here than most states.

I have had a MN permit for decades and have never been finger printed. MN 624.714 gives the requirements for applying for a permit and does not say finger prints are required. Could your county sheriff be requiring something that the law does not ask for ?

Now that they have the electronically scanned prints we may not have to re-do them each time (not certain though)....

one nice thing, here in Texas veterans get 1/2 off on renewals...it's a nice gesture from the legislature...

Since when?

It doesn't matter , all counties must follow PA State law , the PA Uniform Firearms Act. Counties and towns cannot make their own rules or regs concerning the LTCF.

I did my 6th renewal (Montgomery County) back in April. Simple standard PICS background check , $20 and I was good for another 5 years. There's even a box with 'renewal' checked on the front.

Where in Minnesota do you live Marsh? I'm in Anoka County and they didn't require fingerprinting, just a completition certificate from an accredited CCW class and a $100 processing fee.

When the background checks first came to be, Florida exempted LEOs and COs from the check. They just had to show their ID, no fuss, no muss, no waiting period. Then they got to thinking about how many guns those folks buy, and that they were missing out on $5 every time one of them bought a gun from a dealer. Now they have to pay the money and get the background check. They can still avoid the waiting period, as can any CCP holder, but the state wanted the extra money.
