New CS9 range day with 3913.

Nope, those are just white dot sights. My CS9 has Trijicon night sights and they don't look like his picture. No time to put up a picture right now, but they are not night sights.

Yes, they became white dot sights after the dead tritium tubes were painted over - a tube and white outline are visible in your third picture.

Be that as it may, that was not going to happen. Smith was competing on cost with Glock and the blocky slide machining was a cost cutting measure as were plastic parts and the "Sharpie" finish on the carbon steel slides.

That's the same reason that the 457 has plastic sights without the Novak sight cut, plastic magazine release, and other economies.

Which is good for Guzzitaco as he has a nice operation upgrading value line guns! :D

All of this reinforces my belief that S&W should have done a proper 39XX-series with the barrel length of the CS9, but without the later's blocky slide profile and plastic mag button.

The factory installed CS9 rear night sight (S&W part number 203140000) is the same Novak night sight installed on the 3913, the 5906 and probably every other 3rd gen 9mm. The Trijicon SA29 night sight set has a rear sight of a proprietary design by Trijicon - probably so they don't have to pay a cut to Wayne Novak. I had the discontinued Trijicon SA24 installed on my CS9 because I prefer the Novak rear sight used by that set. The front sight height is the same as the SA29 with the sight itself being just a bit longer.

I agree with you on this. I like my CS9 but Smith could have done it better.

In making the CS series, Smith borrowed heavily from there value line guns.

The result was guns that were good but could have been a bit sleaker and more refined.

Agree.

I had (past tense) the CS45 and CS9. Decent pistols.

But the 3914NL and 3914DAO are better choices, IMHO.

Especially the 3914DAO. No safety, great true DAO trigger.

I'd put mine up against anything past or current.

We must have similar tastes in autoloaders.

I had two 3914DAOs at one time. Very nice guns.

Accurate, well made, sleek and good DAO triggers.

I have owned a 908, CS9, 3913, 3953, and 3954. I have optimized those down to just two- a 3914 fitted with a proper spurred hammer and an NYPD overrun 3914DAO. I agree the 3914DAO is outstanding, and I want one with a 3" barrel, but the same mag/grip size.

The sights on my CS 9 are marked Trijicon H3 19. That's how they came back after I sent them in for relamping. There were no markings on them when I sent them out, but it's likely that whatever markings were on them wore off.
