New Executive Order

CMP operates by Congressional Charter. I don t think obama has the power to over rule Congress in this matter. Plus CMP doesn't import guns. The Army does who turns around and gives them to CMP... and honestly we ve known the days of CMP guns was coming to an end. We ve bought just about all the guns that they could find.

Just my luck, I got my NFA Trust just in time for Obama to issue an executive order rendering it useless.

Powers limited, Obama, Biden seek action on guns

Oh well, I'm sure the lawyer that drew it up needs the money.

I dont know anything about trusts, but I understand what they are for. You still go through the background check process right? The only reason I was looking into one is because my CLEO is a communist and will not sign off on the ATF forms. I thought the executor of the trust went through the check? Is your new trust really useless now?

dont mean to change the topic but i am wondering why these guns are in other countries. were garands and model 1917s issued to other countries armed forces and now they are being sold to us importers? do any garands and springfield 1903s have import marks?

They were either sold or given to friendly governments over the years. The largest stockpile I believe is in South Korea, guns we provided for their army.

This has blown up b/c SK decided they would sell a large number of those guns to private importers who were going to bring them back to the US for the civilian market. In 2010 the deal was going to go through, then the State dept nixed it and now we see that objection to it probably came right from the top since he's signed the order to stop it.

There are millions of these guns sitting around all over the world. No doubt ATF/Obama/Clinton are afraid if they let this SK deal go through it could be the start of a LOT of these guns coming back to the US, and eventually include 1911 pistols, M1 Carbines and other guns that obviously would destroy civilization. How they are different

A concern I have is that now that the camel's nose is under the tent, will they eventually move to prevent Glocks into the US because they may be used by a foreign military? Or any other make that is used by a military?
I realize that Glocks and others are also made in the US now but that would end up being just a technical issue " they " would skate around.
Call me paranoid

I don't think there are that many US guns left a lot have been reimported already. The CMP doesn't know of any Country where they could possible get any more guns. South Korea may very well be the last. But here s whats always bothered me. SK tried to sell the guns under Clinton and then again under Obama why did they not try to sell them during the 8 wonderful years W was in Office?

Maybe SK didn't think there was a market for civilians owning military rifles during Ws term. Now, apparently, their marketing studies show there is.?

Mexico (as well as much central and south America)prohibits all military weapons except .38 and smaller, excepting 9mm which is prohibido as well, as it is "military".
Perhaps that is our ideal.
I recall a book title in Australia, called "Poor Fellow My Country".

Counting my time in college, I have 40+ years in law enforcement. In my department, I'm the old guy. I'm almost as old as the mountains. I do not know of any M1 Garand, 1903, or 1917 rifle ever being used in a crime anywhere during all these years. M1 Carbine; other than the ones carried by the Black Panthers or the SLA, maybe 2 or 3 crimes. Contrary to what any politician may say, these are not the weapons of choice of the criminal element. Certain politicians; stupid, dishonest, or both?

The Federal gov't imports guns NOT the CMP. Btw here's what Orest has to say:

wow - three pages before I get to reply - here is my answer:
it just happened this morning and I don't know when I will have time to evaluate. We have to do today's work today and process orders we already have, and then hit the road for Cody.

From what I read - it has no direct impact on the CMP. Of course others will argue it.

This royal fiat sucks for collectors and those interested in shooting historic firearms.

But the real laugh is the response from MAIG and Moms Demand Action (MDA)

They are saying this block on "Military Grade" weapons will prevent *MACHINE GUNS* from getting to the streets, and treating it as a MAJOR VICTORY. When you try to point out that calling an M1 Garand a "Military Grade" weapon is tantamount to calling a Brown Bess (The British standard Musket during the Rev. War, if you're not clued in.) a "Military Grade" weapon, they go nuts and ban you from their page.

The rule has nothing to do with preventing crime, and is 100% political pandering. It also shows that MAIG and MDA aren't really concerned with preventing crime. If they were, they'd be just as mad about this as we are.

Shannon Watts of MDA is a fraud and she knows it. Her organization is a money making not for profit, but it has no teeth. I have even less fear of what her org can do than MAIG.

Don't know if this has been mentioned here but in the lounge there is a link to sign a petition to repeal this exec. Order.
Currently about 13500 signatures and need around 80,000+. Jump over and sign up!
It's called" please sign Garand petition " by Sipowicz.
I'd provide a link but I'm not that smart. It only takes a minute and you'll be signed up for the 'We the People' govt petitions site. Just an email address, name and zip is needed. Don't worry about privacy issues, I'm sure they know all about you anyways.
Looks like it here too with a link by jesse77 ( coincidence? ) I think not, hah
