Hey everyone!

I am a brand new newbie in the firearms scene...recently did my concealed carry course and shot a pistol the first time too!

Picked up my first firearm a few days ago, the M&P Shield 9MM. Haven't gotten a chance to shoot it yet, been reading the manual; that and I'm waiting on my safety glasses and ear muffs to get here.

I have a few questions for you firearm gurus...
1) What cleaning kit and lubrication oil brands do you generally recommend?

2) Do you clean and lubricate after every trip to the range?

3) What do you guys clean the exterior of your pistols with from the fingerprints and grime?

welcome from Washington state...I am far from a guru...I clean the factory gunk off any new gun I buy before I shoot...you will get many different brands and ways to clean your guns as we all have our preferences...I use hoppes #9 to clean the bore with a brush..breakfree for the rest of the gun and hoppes gun oil to wipe it down...you can use patches or old pieces of tee-shirt material...you will eventually come up with what works best for you...you can go to youtube and they have some video's

Welcome from Wisconsin!

I use Break Free CLP, tooth brush, bore brush & cleaning patches. I clean after every shooting session which isn't necessary but I'm retired Military & old habits are hard to break. Your new gun should be cleaned of all factory grease & then lightly lubed before shooting it for the first time.

Welcome from Massachusetts...Definitely clean your gun before it's first range trip. DO NOT use any brushes on the outside. Hoppy's #9 has been in my cleaning kit for 40 years. You can always swipe down the gun with a silicone cloth at the end. As far as how often you should clean your guns, that's totally up to you...BUT if it's your EDC i wouldn't go to long without a good cleaning.

Welcome from N.Central Ohio. Always used Hoppes #9 to clean in and out. I like Wilsons ultima lube but there are as many lubes as there are guns, most are fine to use. CLP, Corrosion x, Slip 2000, Frog Lube just to name a few. Glad to see your reading the Manual and getting the correct protection, You seem to be on the right track.
