Greetings,

Found this forum while looking around for information on S&W M&Ps. Lots of good comments and advice from the members, so I joined. I did civilian LE in the early 70's, carried S&W Model 10. Went in Air Force for 22 years as a Security Police Officer. First 10 years carried S&W Model 15, then last 12 years the Beretta 92.

Last year, Title 18 US Code was amended so military LEO are now eligible for LEOSA credentials. I got mine last month, this allows retired and active military LEO to carry concealed in all 50 states and DC. Currently, I am only aware of the Air Force having a formal credentialing system. Now getting back into shooting, of course went with S&W. I have M&P 9mm Pro 5" and 9mm Shield.

Greetings from Tampa. I read about the military permit(LEOSA) program in the Navy Times and also believe that the Air Force is the only branch doing it.

The only credential the Army provided me with that allowed me to carry was my DD 214 which allowed me to skip the WI concealed carry mandatory classes. That saved me enough money to buy a holster & some ammo. I wasn't involved with military LE, though. I had to take the normal police quals to get my armed security/private detective license. Now THAT was expensive.

I was visiting in New Mexico, and starting this last July 1st they waived all fees for their concealed carry permits for service veterans. You just had to have been out less than 20 years.
