I am looking for input, opinions, and preferences on these grips. I have them roughly shaped but I am wandering if i should round the bottom more ? I may reduce the area below the palmswell some too. What do you think? Also do you like the shape of the speedloader cutout?

Very nice! They look kinda like you combined Ahrends speedloader cutout on the top and the lower portion of the Spegel boot design. I wouldn't round the bottom anymore, but you probably didn't make them for me . . . or did you? hmmm, how much for a set that's checkered?

Oh, I haven't dared to try checkering yet. It is something that I would like to get into down the road. I am not even shure what it entails. I have heard that it consists of a file and guide system, I think?

I have tried several speedloader styles in previous grips but this seems to be the one I like the most.

Nice work!!
I realy like the speedloader cutout..
Looks almost like a set of Spegels in the works..
Are the Square Butt??

If you decide to get into checkering, let me know. I have a checkering tool I bought with that same thought in mind. After I F@#%#! up some decent wood I determined this is not my strong suit. I'll stick to trigger jobs.

Nice job.

If you are going to carry it in a holster I would round the bottoms. Easier on your clothes and your off hand if you use the weaver stance. Either way, you are going to have a great looking pair of grips.

Let us see the end result please.

:) Yes I like them! Looks like walnut is it? If it's
walnut are you going to fill the pores? I think it would
make it look good. You can buy dark filler. Try looking
on the internet for Highland Hardware in Atlanta. Very
good working store and mail order. People who work
there really know what they are talking about. Don

Very, very nice! How do you fit the inside to the frame? How about a photo of the inside area of grip, I would like to see how it's done. Thanks for sharing. Malcolm

Yep, its local grown black walnut. Here is a pic of the inside. I plan on using the BC Gunstock Sealer and Filler. I have never used it before, if anyone has experience with this filler I would appreciate some feedback.

Just another grip freak letting you know that we really want to see the finished result of this project. Black walnut is my favorite wood for guns, either long or short.

I have fixed up several pieces of scrap wood to test methods of finishing, I have only used tru-oil alone thus far (on previous grips). So I have decided to test the walnut stain, the Sealer and Filler, and the Tru-oil slurry filler method. All followed by 3-4 coats of tru-oil. I'll let you know the results and what i choose....

I have just finished sanding with 220 gr, net on to 300. Here are some pics thus far, I have shaped then slightly more.

You did a first class gripmaking job. How did you do the inletting? Dremel, CNC shaper, other? They are beautiful. Looking forward to the finished photos.

Charlie

Pics of grips after finishing, I decided to try the wet sanding method and no stain. I has worked well. I have not added any additional tru oil yet. But they look good so far!
