There are a lot of new gun owners. This is excellent and will hopefully bode well for our RKBA. It is a long term gain for our side. A lot of us, myself included, have been complaining about the crowds and high prices at gun shows as well as difficulties finding ammunition. I am willing to put up with the inconvenience if it will increase the number of gun owners. I expect that the shortages will level out after awhile anyway. It is a lot harder to pass restrictive gun laws when large numbers of formerly non gun owners are buying guns. It is the only thing positive that I have seen come out of the lasst election.

i am a new gun owner. i bought my first one in December, a 642. then i bought:

Sigma 9mm
Beretta 21a
Taurus PT145
Taurus PT1911
DMPS Panther Lite-16
WASR-10 High Cap
Keltec P3AT

i hate not being able to get ammo, but i think that the gun craze makes a bold statement to the politicians: We will not be disarmed. I mean, DMPS alone is backlogged over 150,000 rifles!!! and you know Bushmaster and other companies are just as busy.

Way to jump in!

Sounds like me when I started, I bought 3 guns in one day and then within a year I had about 12 guns.

well there are a couple of factors at play.

1) a learning curve on what i could use and carry vs what my wife can handle, as neither of us had fired a gun apart from my dad's .22 rifle.

2) i always wanted an "assault" rifle and i figured now is the time. so i bought one from each family, if you will.

3) i am the same way with any hobby, especially guitars. all or nothing i say!

I don't mind all the new gun owners, but let us as a group, encourage them to join the NRA and get the proper training and to be responsible with their new guns.

well i joined the NRA and bought a safe for storage.

also got a lifetime carry permit for both of us. only problem i have is getting the wife to go to the range...she "doesnt like" guns, but pretty much made me buy the first one because she doesnt like being home alone when i work late. my goal is to get a picture of her shooting my AR15.

Nice start by joining the NRA and buying a safe, I hope it is a big one. The one thing you need to get that will help your wife, a 22LR pistol, S&W or Ruger. Not only will it help her, but it will also help you hone your handgun skills.

thats exactly what i did. i bought the 642 on the advice of the salesman:

1) its a smith
2) its comfortable to hold (with the grips replaced)
3) its a revolver and more idiot proof

but he neglected to really tell us how unpleasant a snubby can be when you have an inexperienced shooter. so i went and bought her a Beretta .22LR. that gun is perfect for her (and me for that matter): easy to conceal, very easy to shoot accurately, and the tip barrel is great since she has trouble racking the slide on every other semi-auto i own.

I cannot overemphasize the importance of getting some shooting/safety training. The basics are easily learned, and will make the shooting experience much more enjoyable. You will also become a better shooter in a shorter amount of time with some training by a certified instructor or a veteran shooter.

The safety part of gun handling and shooting is a must for all new gunowners. There is absolutely no wiggle room when it comes to gun safety. Each and every mishap not only endangers the new shooter or those around them, but the lib media will jump all over it and use it against all gunowners.

To all new gunowners, please get some training.
