I intend on going to the gun shop today and pick up a
9mm shield and full size 9 mm M&P
Years back I had a full size 40 and I liked it but the
Mags would keep falling out after each shot . Yes I replaced the
Mag catch. I sold it .
Now going back to the set of 9 mm I hope they have this issue fixed.

Now is there any Target and defense ammo these guns don't like? I want to buy bulk on target (+ 500) and don't want to buy
Something the guns don't like.

And a good common defense round for both guns.

Thanks guys

My M&Ps shoot anything I put in it so I generally buy the cheapest target round I can find.

A few suggestions for SD:

Gold Dot
Federal HST
Corbon DPX

Best wishes with your new Smiths!

For target, I use Brass, Federal or American Eagle. They are cheap but reliable. If you look inside the little yellow envelope that comes with your gun package, inside is an empty cartridge shell. That was the round used to test the gun at the factory. If u notice, the rounds are usually Brass. Glock uses them too, so if they are testing their guns with it then they must be good.

For defense, I personally use Hornady HP FTX 185 Grain. They are super clean, reliable and do the job.

My 9mm Shield digests pretty much anything with gusto.

For SD/HD I stick with the usual suspects (Gold Dot, HST, Golden Saber).

In my Shield I use Federal HST for SD. I had no issues with the 500 rounds I shot.

For the range I use Freedom Ammo. I usally just get THIS. I've shot a couple thousand rounds of it through the Shield with absolutely no issues. First time ordering you get free shipping. They are always offering deals from sales on specfic ammo to free shipping offers. I've only ever ordered their NEW ammo, good stuff and good price.

I can only comment on the Shield. Some of the Shields, when brand new, have very stiff recoil springs. A lot of spring pushing back against the recoil during firing. I've read reports that told me that a combination of cheap, light bullet ammo, and probable limp wrist, resulted in a few failure to extract incidents. So, for the first couple hundred rounds, I used rounds with bullets on the heavy side. Heavier bullets.. somewhat more recoil.. less chance of a short cycle.
So, far my Shield has worked great with all of the typical round nose 9mm stuff. 115gn & 124gn. I've also shot up one box of Federal Hydro-Shock 124gn. The older Hydro-Shock, not the newer HST. Worked just fine, but after just 20 rounds, I'm not quite ready to call it good.

Wally world has lots of WWB for $26 bucks now, I buy three from each WW on my way home so I got 1K rounds in one day. I use the HST 124 grain for carry.

Ok I got them both (full size 9 & the shield )and ordered 700 rounds of CCI blazer brass . $10.49 a box (target)
And one box of Remington golden saber and one box of Remington ultimate defense . Now to find a good way to carry the shield . And a couple more mags.
thanks guys

If the Shield is your CC piece, I'd practice with what you plan to use when you carry. Not a lot of sense to get good with a certain brand/type/weight ammo and then load it with something else. It's the old "train like you fight, fight like you train."

For SD in 9mm, try most any Premium hollow point in weights from 124 to 147 grains and you will not go wrong. Stay with Winchester PDX or Ranger, Federal HST or Speer Gold Dot and they will serve you well.

For practice, I prefer 124 to 147 grain also, and the 124 grain Winchester 9mm NATO FMJ runs very well as a practice round. Again, I recommend you stay with the practice ammo in the Winchester, Federal, Speer or Remington brands.

As noted, I do not care for the Remington and Hornady brands for SD purposes.

Freedom 124gr new for target, Federal HST 124gr in our Shields and my 9FS for SD. I prefer 124gr since it is more accurate in my guns, and not as "snappy" IMO.

My 40FS eats anything. I shoot whatever is cheapest for target, CCI blazer brass is a good deal right now. SD I have been using cor bon power ball.
Sorry to hear your 40 gave you problems. Mine has been trouble free, great gun IMO. Did you try sending it to smith for warranty repair?
