That's too bad SE PA ...
We give up a lot to live where we live but, the natural beauty here is just amazing. Plus we have the Chesapeake Bay 3.5 miles to our west and the Atlantic Ocean 3.5 miles to our east. Our property is well hidden too. The only access is via 2 dirt/sand/gravel driveways, each of them about a mile long. Both driveways are well hidden and canopied over. The only bad thing is that the local sheriff's office has a rule. The deputy that is on duty at the time can choose to respond to a 911 call from our house, or choose not to respond as well. Because the driveways are perfect places to ambush someone, the deputies often will choose not to respond and honestly, I can't blame them. On the other hand, with me being in the security business our house is well defended and very difficult to break into. Then there's the fact that I have firearms stashed all over the house, safely, of course. However, if you were to enter the house, you'd be met by a 12 gauge, a 20 gauge, a 5.56mm, a 9mm or a .380. In any event, you'd probably leave the house horizontally. Most every room has remote controlled lights, which means that at night I can turn on a light and surprise an unwanted guest before they were shot.
We also have 2 dogs that might not be the most intimidating dogs, they are alert and loud. So if the alarm didn't wake anyone up the dogs certainly would.
Having a private shooting range at home is a wonderful thing to anyone who enjoys shooting and it makes staying in practice so much easier than going to a range. It also means that my practice includes shooting in no to low light conditions and being able to replicate potentially odd shooting positions, such as lying on the ground on my back or in any other weird pose I could end up in on the street while shooting to save my life or the life of my family.
Here's to hoping you can get to a better place and having your own range someday.
Safe shooting to you partner!

Welcome from SE PA. Damn Imwould, love to have a property wherebIn oils set up a range. The township I live in has a law that prohibits the discharge of a firearm in township limits. Too bad because I live on the edge of a wooded area that is a vale that offers natural barriers.
