Hey guys,

I'm BRAND new to the forum. I have been doing a decent amount of training (for me) in various classes and training courses. I ended up streamlining my pistols. I had a bunch of glocks and fn's and other fun stuff. Well, I ended up with 4 M&P's. 2 M&P9c's, 1 M&P9, and a police trade in M&P40.

my 9c's have the full apex trigger and forward set sear and matching truglo night sights and I have the same waiting to go into the full size... and that's why I have this question.

the 40 is just a desk gun for work. I took that on a trade and honestly, it'll live down at work and rarely get shot.

anyway, long story short. When I ordered my full size 9mm I specifically asked the gun shop to order one without the magazine safety. They messed up and the one that came in has it.

can I swap out the (I don't know the correct term) fire control group with my .40? I'd like both my full size and carry 9c to have the same setup.

Thank you!

The magazine safety is has nothing to do with the fire control group. It should be a pin and spring under the rear sight that controls that

Removing the mag safety is easy. This would give you the gun you want. Check YouTube for "M&P magazine safety removal". There are several videos showing how to remove the mag safety.
Swapping parts from an older to newer model will not likely work as S&W has changed the sear housing, but I am not fully knowledgeable to answer that question. Rastoff and others can chime in on that.

I get that. I don't know what the term is for the unit that contains the magazine safety. I've seen people on youtube with the whole unit removed. I'd rather just swap that out with the .40 if possible rather than messing around with adding springs and modifying the gun.

Thanks

i watched a few. they all added springs to them which i wasn't wild about.

i have a 9c that's just a spare that is new. if the .40 has the older sear housing (i've had to check that when installing the apex triggers).

I need to check and see if i have the new style or the old on the .40.

I guess i'll just check and see if they'll swap. i'm 99% sure they're the same. but i wanted to see if anyone had done one.

Buy a spring from SpeedShooterSpecialities which is used in place of the mag safety and spring currently in the one gun. That operation is a breeze. Unless you're equipped with small dexterous hands you may find putting the mag safety and its spring in another gun a bear. Been there done that.
