Well I'm new here so let me introduce myself. My name is Frank, grew up around guns, mostly shotguns and .22's. Decided to get something for home protection and target shooting. Bought the M&P .40 fs and love this gun. Went to try to buy a box of ammo and didn't really know what was too much $$ considering this shortage. Still bought a box but would really like to know what were pre- shortage prices running? Don't want to buy a bunch of overpriced ammo, I can wait for the market to adjust. Thank You, and good shooting to you.

Tulammo is about 15 per 50 and winchester white box around 21 per 50. That is FMJ. Winchester JHP is about the same as FMJ, Home Defense is ballpark 26 per 20 rounds and up. Those are the prices if you can find it today in my area. Great choice on the FS. Love mine.

Welcome, great place for answers.

Hey Frank

A Hound Dawg howdy from SC

I'm new to 9mm myself and I just paid $20 each/box 50 target ammo.

Not fall of 2012 prices, but I don't think it was anywhere near gouging. 9mm was one of the easier to find and not too expensive ammos before TSHTF than anything, except .22 (which has disappeared). I'm going to be combing the local stores.

Pre-hysteria, I would get WWB .40 FMJ at Walmart for $32.97 or $34.97 for a 100 rd value pack.

What was odd was pre-election, WWB FMJ .45APC 100 rd boxes were $39.97. 100 rd boxes of Federal Champion FMJ were $25.97!!! I usually go straight for the WWB. I was kicking myself when I found the Federal for so much less. Such a price gap between brands didn't exist for .40.

Bass Pro prices are a few to several dollars more per box compared to Walmart.

So far, the prices at SGAMMO.com have seemed reasonable. You must buy a lot or shipping just a few 50 rd boxes will eat you up on shipping.

WOW, I love this forum!! So many replies in a short time. I've actually been surfing here for a couple of months, thats what sold me on the M&P, the great reviews of the gun. I guess then $25 for 20 rounds of Winchester PDX1 at Cabelas wasn't too bad then?

Welcome from KY. That price is okay but that is self defence ammo and you may want to limit shooting it. Keep your eyes open at walmart (go right when they open if possible), Also try Dicks Sporting Goods or another similar store in your area. BTW, you will really enjoy the MP40.
