hey guys and gals

i have the bug. i bought a 625 recently and it bit me. now i'm really digging revolvers.

i want an inexpensive plinking gun to mess with and with my limited knowledge it looks like the model 10 is going to fit the bill.

where is the best place to get one? anything online? or just hit the local stores and shows?

there's a model 13 at a local store. not sure on the details but i'll find out tomorrow. that might be nice buy at $350

i'm also considering a stainless version like a 64 or 65 is the price is right. are the prices generally close to model 10s on the 64s?

thanks guys!

You cannot beat a M10 but if you can grab the M13 at that price go get it. I have a M13-3 and it is the best of both. As far as where to get a M10 this is a good site and you should be able to find some in good shape at your LGS. I've never purchased from Bud's or other on-line shops so I cannot speak to their rep. for good products and customer service.

Good hunting.

Sportsmans Outdoor Superstore has them for $229 shipped. Police trade ins, but very economical. They had them for $209 this weekend, but I guess the price went up.

I bought 3 Model 64's from them in July and was pretty impressed with their condition considering the price.

IMHO grab that Model 13 and shoot .38's all day and switch to .357 when the urge hits. Model 10' s are plentyful but if your patient, you can find a really nice one at local gun shops and pawn shops. Enjoy the bug, there are worse hobbys!

+1 from here ! If that M13 is anything but a real beater, that's a very good price. A 13-2 has been my close associate for over 25 yrs, so I can recommend it fully.

i need to check the details on it tomorrow. the lockup was great, timing was great and trigger was butter.

of course i was in a rush and didn't even look to see the barrel length or round butt vs square butt. i don't really care either way

just watched a nice youtube video 25 minutes long on the model 13. man i'm getting the bug

+1 on the Model 13. That would be my 1st choice. If you need a model 10 I bought a shooter from Bud's on line that was great at $249 shipped. Plus my $20 FFL fee. Mine was a 85% 4"RB and shoots great.

m10 is not fancy, but all you need...it was my first duty gun in 4"and off duty in 2"...i still have the 4" and recently picked up a 4" stamped RHKP for royal hong kong police...very nice guns

Thanks guys. It's tough. I want one of each. I'm going to check the local shows the more I read and learn the more models I want.
Well except the internal locks. They're just ugly.

Welcome "new guy". You're in trouble now, you've caught the bug. I remember thinking when I bought my first M28 thirty years ago that that revolver would be all the handgun I'd ever want or need. My family has been impoverished ever since. If that Model 13 is in nice shape and still available, I think you should stop by the bank machine and then head back to that gun shop.

Ya gotta love the old wheel guns. I recently purchased a nice Mod 10-5 that was a police trade-in, it's really sweet. I also picked up a nice model 36 snubby from a buddy at my gun club. He purcvhased it new in 1976, I have the original box with all the paperwork. It even has the original cleaning kit and "oil paper" the little guy was wrapped in when it was purchased. Both of these revolvers a GREAT shooters and quite a dream to shoot!
You certainly can't go wrong with an older revolver as long as you do your due diligence and really check it out!
Just one man's $.02!!

Don't overlook model 64s (stainless version of the model 10). Lots on the market for very reasonable prices. They make great knock around guns, too.

And, of course, if you like adjustable sights, there is the M15 and M67. Same guns otherwise.
If you buy the M13, or any other K frame magnum, check the forcing cone carefully. Some of these guns have cracked at this location. This is likely caused by shooting 125 gr full magnum loads. Should not be a problem with 158 gr loads. You might want to take a magnifying lens and a bright flashlight. If the gun is dirty, this might be hard to see.

I love those model 10's. It seems the 10-5 is the most common. The 10-6 for the heavy barrel version is a great choice. If you want something that looks sweet, the early 10-5's with diamond grips make a great looking gun. Here's a couple, just to show you what I'm talking about. They don't make them like that any more.

god it's getting worse. i need one!

i really think i want to go with a magnum, although that starts to creep me up beyond the inexpensive model 10, not that i mind that but if i go that route i might just go with a 686

You can shoot the same 38s in a M13 or M686 as in the M10. Or any other 357 magnum for that matter.
If you want to go inexpensive get a M17 or one of the other 22s. Lot'sa fun for cheap shooting.
