Greetins all, I'm new to the forum, I'm a BP fanatic and this is my 2nd BP cartdrige gun and 1st problem I can't solve !! I just purchased another 32cal Model 3 1 1/2 as a project piece and need some advise as to how I go about removing the cylinder pin. Reason being, sometimes the entire cylinder comes out instead of the extracting star popping up, plus the cylinder binds and the gun won't cycle, I think the threads on the top of the pin are stripped. It's been made into a snubbie and I intend to niter blue it when it's working again. Thanks.

Welcome to the Forum. You may have 2 problems to solve. The cylinder of a properly working 32 SA should not pop out without unscrewing it. Also, there is a tab under the barrel catch that is supposed to keep the cylinder in place. Apparantly, neither part is doing it's job. You may need a new base pin if the thread at the top of the pin is worn, which may be about impossible to find. You might be able to silver solder a tab extension under the barrel catch. There is little chance of ruining the collector value of the gun, so maybe even place a weld bead in the tab location and form an extended tab to catch the back of the cylinder like the Model 3s. Those old large frame S&Ws relied on a seperate tab as the only method to hold the cylinder in place.

Very nice! If I recall, the cylinder pin is threaded in place on this model, later top breaks use a retaining pin that is visible from the outside. Check to see that the top latch is going down all the way so the retaining tab is reaching the cylinder. If you determine that you can't repair it, I would be happy with it just a it is. Cut down antique snubbies are a passion of mine and yours has a great deal of character.
