I'm surprised these gun bills passed the legislature. Are you suffering from a southern invasion?
Short answer: Yes. More moving here from Mass and more anti money pouring in.
It isn't hard to figure out how the bills made it to the governor's desk, since the legislature (the New Hampshire General Court) has been controlled by one party since the 2018 elections.
New Hampshire's a beautiful state. Not surprised people move there. One major reason is because the state doesn't tax retirement income (except for investments). For those people who care about the state's gun laws, New Hampshire doesn't require a permit or training to carry concealed. It is a Shall Issue state. The state follows federal guidelines regarding purchase age, but sets no age limits on its own. And unlike Massachusetts, there is no mention of a ban on assault weapons or the use of a registry. Seems like New Hampshire still has it pretty good in spite of "more anti money pouring in".
Chris Sununu will probably be elected again, and sooner or later, the balance of power in the legislature will change.
These now vetoed bills were discussed briefly here back in May in
this thread. In May, I didn't think the bills would pass, and said so. That's because I wasn't familiar with their legislature's makeup. But
Jimbo728 was right about all of it, including saying Governor Sununu is pro-gun...and reading the letter sent to Jim, the governor states that he will work to protect New Hampshire gun owners' rights as long as he holds office.
So it seems this threat is (temporarily?) over for New Hampshire.
I don't live in New Hampshire, and wasn't familiar with their gun laws...but now I see that their gun laws are probably the envy of a lot of states, including my own. Plus, they're a Castle Doctrine
and Stand Your Ground state?!?! Does it get any better than that? Click
here to see a summary of their laws.
