So during deer season, I went to holster my model 67 and I heard something hit the ground. If I attach pictures correctly, you'll see the leaf of my rear sight broke. After having trouble trying to figure out exactly where to look for a new one, and what info was needed to identify which one I need, I finally called customer service. A gentleman gave me 2 numbers to try, as S&W no longer makes these sights. After talking to him for a while, he happened to find one he thought would work, and sent it to me for FREE! Lo and behold, it's just a fraction of an inch different than what I need. Yes wonderful world of Facebook directed me here. I'm avoiding the two places he told me to call, as he expected it would cost $100+ from them! At help would be appreciated!
(So I was able to attach the pictures, but my phone isn't letting me add them as pictures in this post....I'll get it figured out eventually!)

Welcome to the S&W Forum and sorry for your problem. It looks like maybe you have a J-frame sight as your replacement. Yes, a full replacement sight is going to probably run anywhere from $75-100 or more depending on where you buy it... sometimes an established gunsmith might have one in his "chowder box" that has been taken off of a revolver to install a scope, or maybe a gun show might also work. I've got a body for a sight from a Model 67, but the upright blade is broken on it, and you'd probably need to get an installation kit just to change your good blade to my good sight base. Since you use this for hunting, if you can't easily find a replacement, you might want to look into the "Rough Use" sight from Hamilton Bowen. He shows them on his website.

You have already discovered the two caveats of rear sight replacement: 1) They (S&W) no longer make the square tang sights; and 2) there are different dimensioned sights.

You need to measure the distance between the two holes on your original sight (I've never seen one break like that). Ebay is probably your best bet, although you may want to check Numrich. Sights on eBay may run anywhere from $50 - $120.

In the alternative Bowen makes their Rough Country sight with a blank, square tang to drill to fit - best done by a gunsmith. This option will cost you considerably more than $100 and the sights are hard to find - although he stopped working on S&W's to concentrate on the manufacturing side of his business. Best, most rugged sight out there in my opinion.

Adios,

Welcome to the FORUM! Gun shows are a good place to look for things. I have a 67 no dash from 1973. It has the all stainless rear sights. People did not like them, and later 1's were blue. Bob

So a friend was able to weld it, and I'm gonna see if my machinist friend can modify the free one I got, to have as a backup. It's not pretty, but it'll do for now.
