Here are a couple of photos of my latest holster from Lobo Gun Leather (my fifth). It is a modified Tom Threepersons.

In recent months, it has become increasingly painful (sometimes impossibly painful) for me to draw my handguns from typical "high rise" holsters. I presented my problem to Ray and his solution was this modified Tom Threepersons that it is working just perfectly for me! I hasten to add that Ray told me he rarely accepts custom orders anymore because there are barely enough hours in the day for him to keep up with his regular production work.

Thanks again for taking the time to help out a broken-down, old warhorse, Ray!

If it isn't your back, then it's the shoulders. I hope you get your mobility back soon.

Nice solution to your problem, Ray does nice work.

Thanks, fellas, and I concur; Ray does do nice work and is a class act.

You're right, bronco45. Shoulder and wrist, at the moment. As they say, "Getting old ain't for sissies!" :D

XTrooper: I just became an official "geezer" the other day when I signed up for Medicare. Gotta be tough to be old.

XT ... With the modified design, are you able to horizontally "rock" the pistol out rather than vertically draw it "up and out"?

Beautiful pistol ... beautiful grips ... beautiful set-up. Best of luck with it!

Thanks, Steve. Always a pleasure to hear from old friends, and to help out when we can.

In this case the solution was a relatively simple modification of the Threepersons' design to incorporate a "drop", very similar to what we did years ago for duty-style holsters. The drop requires a reinforcement piece to stabilize the holster to the belt; in this case I used a 0.090 Kydex panel built into the drop loop behind the belt and extending down to the holster connection point; in prior years we used heavy sheet metal stampings for the same purpose. Steve wanted a neutral cant (staight drop, vertical draw) to accomodate his arm and shoulder limitations, and this corresponds neatly with the duty holster requirements for large-frame revolvers like we used to use every day of our working lives as cops.

I wish that I had the time to do nothing but custom design and build jobs. I truly enjoy the challenges, and custom work is infinitely more interesting and rewarding than routine production work. Unfortunately, I continue to receive 250-plus e-mails every week, each of which requires a response to answer questions, acknowledge orders, etc, and then I work every day (7 days per week for the past 3 years, minus two days recovering from a recluse spider bite and a day to attend an old friend's funeral) in the shop producing orders for delivery. So, the time that I can commit to non-standard work is pretty limited. Steve is a long-term customer, and our backgrounds have many shared experiences, so when he comes to me with a little project I am always willing to help.

The "old friend" connection counts for a lot in my book. This weekend I'm planning on a couple of days off, in the mountains chasing blue grouse and ptarmigans with a .22, sleeping in my camper and hoping a blizzard doesn't strand me at 10,000 feet in the Rockies until springtime. It will also be my birthday, and I'll be "plenty-nine years old" again! Maybe I'll get to see my old friend (shown in the attached photo) who likes to hang around where I fish and hunt.

Life is good.

Best regards.

To answer your question, this holster is basically a vertical draw. However, because of the duty holster type drop and the short barrel length (2 5/8") of the revolver, drawing from this holster is lightning fast and PAIN FREE! :)

Ray,

Your "friend" is a fine specimen of a bobcat.

Thanks again for your help, amigo! ;)
