When my brother passed away, I inherited some of his friends. Two of them, and their 2 kids, are like family. Mark is a contractor. One man shop. Works hard and produces above average work. One of the big fish, that gives him jobs, paid for him and 6 others to do a canned hunt in Southern Idaho for bull elk. Everyone got a bull and somone got a bison. Mark has never been hunting. My brother lived to hunt deer. Apparently, some of that rubbed off on Mark. Mark is one of those physically gifted, graceful people who picks things up fast. When he found out about the hunt he went and bought a bow. He picked it up quickly. When they got to the hunt it was late in their season. Of the 1600 animals they had planted, 63 remained. They were wary beasts, having experienced heavy hunting pressure. He finally got a shot with the bow at 53 yards. He was stretching his self imposed limit by 3 yards. Hit the bull but hit a rib with no penetration. With limited opportunities at a bull within 50 yards, he was convinced to borrow a rifle. Mark hasn't shot a rifle in 20 years. The rifle he borrowed was chambered in .300 PRC? One shot at 137 yards and the bull dropped, DRT. 450+ pounds of wrapped meat. 400+ inches of antler. First time hunting and first animal he's ever taken. He's having a shoulder mount done. Since my brother passed, Mark has had one of his deer racks on his wall. He called and asked if he could move it to mount his elk. Kinda guy he is. Why he's family. Upshot is, he is planning to hunt in his home state of WA next year! I'm kinda proud of my "brother" and wanted to brag. No pictures as I can't get my phone to talk to my PC. Senioritis.

By the way, he did it wearing a woolen hat with a tall pointed conical top and a wide brim. They called him Gandalf the Great White Killer at the lodge.
