I heard on the news this morning that California is thinking of passing a bill that would make the license plates become advertising billboards to generate money for the state. Did I hear this report correctly? I don't think a person could see a license plate when stopped in traffic as it would be to low.

Sounds like the Republik of California... the biggest problem would be, what to do if an advertiser went bankrupt? Recall a bunch of license plates? I am really surprised that the state hasn't jumped whole-hog on the medicinal marijuana thing to tell the truth, they could probably triple their yearly budget. Money talks for sure.

I wonder if drivers would get a choice on who they're advertising for? Somehow I just can't imagine soccer moms would be happy having a Viagra license plate, or that Nancy Pelosi would be happy having a plate advertising for the NRA.

It's things like this that make it really embarrassing to live in Kalifornia. I wish I could afford to move.

Sure glad I moved out of there over 7 years ago. I hate to see what's happening to my state because I'm a third generation Cally. My grandfather was born near Santa Barbara in 1880 & my mother was born in Coalinga in 1911. I was born in Albany in 1931.

Agreed! I bailed after 34 years of living there... rarely go back except for funerals and weddings, and even then, I spend as little time as possible

My only time in California was military time in 1969. It was weird then and appears to be getting weirder. Maybe it should just become it's own country and separate from the states.

The Caliban at work, again. I'm another person that is glad to be FROM that place.

Dick, I left the "Golden State" in 1994 and seldom return. My great-great grandfather jumped ship in San Francisco in 1850 to head for the gold country, sadly he found little gold. But he was smart enough to buy land.

I was born just miles from you, Highland hospital in Oakland 1948. I still can remember California was the Golden State and life was good for most.

HA HA! Have you been to Highland Hospital in the last 10 or 20 years?? You had better be armed if you venture into or near that place! :)

I got off a transport from Viet Nam, in Calif., in 1970. Had to go to LAX (in uniform) to get connections back home. I was spit on, called a baby killer and generally harrassed. I have sucessfully avoided the place ever since.

Spent most of my life there, left five years ago.

I remember when Mrs. Knott made pies. Then the USAF sent me to McCellan and I had lived in Placer County ever since.

I miss the Sierra badly, but when I go to visit the kids I can't wait to leave. All the places that are gone, Orange County, Napa, and the list goes on.

Hey, 395 from Gardenerville to Lone Pine is still pretty nice. Bishop and Mammoth are turning into rat holes, but the rest of it is one of the nicest drives on the planet.

Anybody still have a black and yellow license plate?

Wow.. just when I thought the waste of flesh people in Sacramento can't possibly get anymore ridiculous, something like that comes up.

The concept ranks right up there with obnoxious factor of flat screen monitors at checkout lines and gas pumps blaring commercials at you.

What next? Flat screen monitors on the back of the restroom stall doors to bombard a "captive" audience with ads?

I want to get out of this f'ed up state so bad, my teeth hurt.

Gunhacker, come on up to Idaho...I'll even help you with the drive :)

I thought Calif. was a tree hugger state? wont the air quality and noise level and land fill be adversely affected by making more plates???
