New M & P 10 but SCREWED UP

Ordered a new M&P 10 (after reading this forum). It is due in this Tuesday.
HOWEVER, when I reviewed my order, it was the Comp model. This means it is compliant with some antigun states like Maryland. When I checked it out, looks like a fixed stock and no muzzle brake. Well that sucks! Your thoughts?

Best I know that is California Compliant means the magazine cannot be removed without a tool…tool being a bullet point so that is no big deal in my mind. IT may also mean a 10 round mag, but 20 round p mags will work, just use a bullet tool. Don't know about the muzzle brake but that may not be a big deal, as you can add on all kinds of aftermarket Muzzle brakes like most folks do on this forum.

PS Be sure to oil the hell out of the new weapon and avoid all the FTE and FTF problems I encountered. And don't do any mods until you make sure the damn thing is working right.

The comp models have a heavier barrel which I have and like. Not sure about Maryland law but it may just be the muzzle brake and maybe the collapsible stock, not sure.
If its the heavy barrel, it won't be threaded so you can't put one on unless you have it threaded.
I'm in va. So no restrictions. I have the heavy barrel with collapsible stock and normal mag release. I just bought some more 20 rd pmags for it. Right now Bayou has them for 19.95 with free shipping using the code words "merry Christmas". There is a link here under a post about .308 pmags.

I bought a comp model back when they first came out. It was during the crazy and the only one I could find for less than msrp++. The fixed stock just has a roll pin inserted in it to make it fixed, 1 minute and a drill fixed that. The heavy barrel you can have threaded by a gunsmith for about $50.00. I like my barrel better than the non comp model as it is heavier and now has a pws fsc30 comp on it. ;-). Shot fine without any comp and now has the comp I want! It will also come with a 10 round magazine, no biggie as I now have a few pmags to go with that one .

the biggest pain is unpinning the stock as someone else noted. this version does not have the bullet point mag release, that is only the CA,CO one. i also like the heavier barrel, i haven't added a muzzle break yet but as others have noted its no big problem. just be sure when you buy after market stuff that it is compatible with the m&p-10, there are lots of little differences in buffer tubes/springs/buffers, the bcg, and the size/mounting of the hand guard.

Don't except it. FFL will send it back usually free, and you can order what you really want. Just don't fill out the paper work. Just remember next time let you brain move faster then your fingers and read everything several times.

I have a FFL and ordered direct from a distributor. Other than the $60 to $70 in shipping, I think they have a restock free of 10%. My biggest issue is the weight.....heavy barrel.

all of the m&p 10s(flash hider or not) are listed at 7.71lbs except the magpul camo version(8.11lbs.). all models have a 1/10 5R 18" 4140 steel barrel.it seems that the only weight difference between a comp vs non comp barrel is the comp.so your only added weight would be that of the new comp.hope this helps

WOW.......thanks guys. Great link to compare. If in fact the weight is 7.7 lbs, I will be happy. Just add my own comp. It is supposed to come today and I will let you know.

Did you get the camo one? I wish they would do a regular M&P in camo. Maybe SHOT 2014 will go that route. Good luck with your new gun.

Brown truck delivered! Someone mentioned lemonade. Having a big glass right now. Looks like one small pin to remove and I got a adjustable stock! As far as the muzzle brake goes, good excuse to go see my gunsmith. Weight was what I was worried about and put it on the scale and without the magazine it weighs 7 lb 11 ozs.

On the regular model I think that the muzzle brake is counted in the 18 inches of the barrel. My barrel is heavier and a full 18 inches. I think I am happy.

Now to clean all the factory goop off and put a scope on and head to the range. All is good.
