Hello,
I recently picked up a M&P 2.0 Compact in 45. I come from the land of 1911. This is my first plastic pistol. I have about 200 rounds thru it so far. I like the grip a lot. I have small hands and find the medium grip piece fits my hand well. The texture on the grip is much to my liking. The trigger seems to be getting better (or maybe I am just getting used to it, or both).

I had a jam on the first trip to the range. The round was sticking straight up out the top of the slide, bullet pointing at the sky. It has worked good since then so I am hoping it was just breaking in the new pistol. Has anyone else had similar happenings??

I like the idea of a 10 round mag. However when I load it with 10, I can not get the mag into the gun with the slide closed. So, it seems to be a 9 plus 1 gun. Does the mag spring age and allow full 10 rounds or is this just the nature of the beast?

Thanks,
HH

The pistol, and the mags, will need a break in period.
I have no problem getting 10 rounds in my mags and inserting with the slide closed.
Mine is the full size with around 350 rounds thru it so far.

Congratulations on a nice pistol. I also have the 45 2.0 4 inch compact. I really like the gun. I have roughly 500 rounds through mine and I can say that it does get better with more shooting in my opinion. The mag springs are still tight. I load them with Lula mag loader, to help with the 10th round. They have gotten better with shooting. I usually load 1 in the chamber with the slide open, just a practice I've been using with my 2.0 shield 9mm and my 2.0 compact 9mm 4 inch. Hopefully this helps, happy shooting

When the slide is forward and you are seating a full magazine you cannot be gentle about it, you have to do so with authority. The magazines will get a little easier but you want them to be a little stiff.
Do not put a round directly into the chamber and then release the slide to slam forward over the round in the chamber, you stand a good chance of eventually breaking the end of your extractor off as it is forced to SNAP over the rim of the cartridge. Always load the chamber from the magazine which allows the base of the cartridge to slide up the breachface and under the extractor. It also slows the closing force of the slide down as it strips the top round out of the magazine.

You worded it much better than I did. I'm Glad you threw me an assist.

Yes, you should be able to fit 10. It'll be difficult in the beginning, but I regularly do so. With 10 in the magazine, compressing the spring in the magazine can be challenging so to seat the magazine, slam it up with the palm of your hand. You won't hurt anything.

I've had a couple mags loaded with 9 for the past month. Topped then up to 10 and tried them last night. They latch on place. All is fine now.

I picked up a couple more used mags from GB. They came yesterday. So, now I've got four. That should keep the zombies at Bay.

Thanks,
HH

I have about 1500 rounds through my 2.0 compact 45 and it's still very tight getting the 10th round in the magazines. I always use a maglula which really helps.

It's also still really tight seating a full mag with the slide closed, I have to slam it. I don't like to do that so I just seat the mag with the slide open which is easy. I don't worry about the loss of a round in capacity because this isn't my carry gun and if it was and I couldn't get the job done with 10 rounds I doubt if one more would be the difference maker.

I had a couple jams when the gun was brand new but it's flawless now.

Congrats for M&P :)
I also started with 1911 and all my other handguns had to somehow fight with 1911 perfection (not "a Glock Perfection" :D)
Anyway with M&P it is very easy transition from steel to polymer so you will be OK after few thousand rounds. Do dry fire practice - it will come faster then.

The jam you are mentioning is called "stovepipe". Nothing wrong with it if it happened with new pistol in your hands. Hopefully it won't happen again, but all is on you. Nothing bad with the firearm. The stovepipe in your case was caused by your grip - polymer pistol is much lighter than 1911 and your hands didn't get used to new weight and shape. Give yourself some time and you will see no issues anymore.

Good luck and have a lot fun with M&P :)

I love my M&P 45 Shield M2.0.
250 rounds with zero issues.
Mags loaded to capacity.
