A couple days ago, I purchased a new M&P 2.0 Compact in 9mm. Felt very good in the hand, and performed even better at the range. I had been shooting my new M&P 2.0 FS 40/357 Sig, so with the 9mm, the recoil was noticeably lighter and accuracy was exceptional. I always liked this size pistol, and it is a good mix of size, weight, capacity and reliability.
After firing 400 trouble free rounds, this new M&P compact will become my EDC. I still have my Glock Gen 4 model 19, but I never got use to the blocky grip and styling. IMHO: S&W really came up with a viable Glock alternative.
This may stir some discussions (and boo's), but I would love to see and have an M&P compact sized single stack!

They already have it. It's called the shield.

I'm excited to read of your satisfaction with the 2.0c.
I have a G19 g4 also, and I just can't see any reason to replace it. I may add a 2.0 but no plans right now.
I carry my Shield 9 a lot more often than the G19 and I don't see any reason that would change.

I'm thinking the OP means a gun that is the same height and length as the new compact(4" barrel), but in a single stack. this would make it a bit bigger than the shield and possibly more capacity. probably around a 9 or 10+1 (in 9mm). People have been asking that of glock for years as well... to make a "single stack G19". There's definitely a market for it. The closet thing to this I think would be the springfield XD-S 4.0 with the extended mag. that gun that Rob Pincus designed is kind of supposed to be like that as well... single stack, 4" barrel, 10+1 but its not out yet... they keep having issues with it.

Single stack 9mm with the 4" barrel 10+1 might make me break my promise to the wife that my handgun collection is complete. The XDS 4.0 is a nice gun, I just prefer a frame safety and SA does not offer it. Fortuneatly for me, the 2.0 compact came out and it is now in my collection.

This is how I view it.

I already have one, and dozens of mags. There would be no point in replacing one with the other at this point. If I were just starting out now I'd probably give the M&P a good look but at this point yet another gun is useless. That being said, if I see a used one for a super low price I may consider it

I did play with one at a store. Felt ok but how it feels in the store doesn't translate to how it will perform

I have several glocks and probably 20-30 mags. The 2.0 shoots so much better and feels so much better to me that I made the switch and am just waiting on mags to release so I can order 5-10 more.

The Shield is a Sub-Compact, not a Compact. I do like my Shields, but they are just a tad to small to be MY perfect pistol.
As someone suggested, I would welcome a 2.0 Compact sized single stack with a 4" barrel and full grip purchase. I believe it would hold a decent amount of rounds, well balanced and very carry friendly.

I'm waiting on my 2.0 C to show up the end of this week. I like the way it feels so much I've sold off my full size. I never really liked the Shield, just didn't feel good in my hand. I have an older 9C that I'll keep as it's a great shooter and easy to conceal in a t-shirt.

The new one is a great size and from the loaner I got to try I was impressed with how it shot as well as the stock trigger. Can't wait for it to get here.

I'm not a big fan of single stacks. I would have sold my shield but the market got saturated during the rebates so it will just sit in the safe.

Glad you're happy with your S&W M&P 2.0, I feel the same about mine, and it has made my EDC Rotation, but so has my new Glock Gen 5 G-19, which is also an awesome gun, now if I can just get the 2.0 ambi slide release to work as well as the 19.5 I'll be even happier..
