Just tried to fire a brand new 4.25' 9mm C.O.R.E.
Did the obligatory prefire cleaning and it would not feed the second round in after the chambered round fired. The slide went half way home each time I cycled the gun.

This gun came with a barrel that was all blue/black in color. Not the usual bare metal color. The feed ramp was treated along with the rest of the barrel, which I thought was odd.

I got the Dremel out and polished the feed ramp and fired 10 rounds through it without a failure to feed. Couldn't fire any more because the neighbor came over and wanted to know what that "popping sound" was coming from my basement. Tomorrow I will take it to the range to see if it cycles properly. Glad I stopped, the 16" pine log I was firing in to was a little "punky" and one round nose went through the log (just barely) and bounced off the concrete block. Thank god for inquisitive neighbors.

Don't they function test the guns?

Every gun is test fired. That is how they get the fired casing your gun came with.

All the M&Ps come with barrels that are treated. I don't know if they are treated with the Melonite process, but they are all treated and blue black in appearance. This is done after the barrel is fully machined so, the feed ramp is the same color.

Your gun may just have needed some rounds to be cycled through it.

My .40 cal CORE came with an untreated barrel.
This gun didn't have an empty case. And firing one round wouldn't check for a feeding problem. Are you saying they fire one round or multiple to check for feed issues?

My 9mm CORE barrel is shiny and untreated. I figured that was probably for appearance since it is ported. The slide is also stamped as "performance center". My non ported 40cal CORE barrel is black, but the feed ramp is polished. It is stamped as a "pro" model. No black feed ramps for either.

Failure to Feed

WOW ! I have owned and still have MANY s+w hand guns in nearly 40 years revolvers, several semiauto's B-4the plastic guns, 1911s, Performance Center guns and now the new M+P line. I have to be the luckiest man that buys handguns made by S+W. Out of all the handguns that I own now or have owned in the past I have had to send 3 guns back to S+W for service. First one was a J frame mod. 60 38 made back in 1980. I made the mistake and shot +P+ ammo and the action quit working. That was in 2010 I shipped it back they returned it repaired NO CHARGE. #2 was a PRO SERIES 1911 9mm, sent back repaired , #3 was the 380 bodyguard when they just came out ,sent back they replaced the gun with a new one. I have been buying the M+P line since they have come out in 2005. I have all calibers and many 9mms. All the COREs, the 5inchPRO, 4.25 PRO, sub compact, shield, 4.25 reg.I have not any other problems with any of the guns. LUCKY MAN ! Just thought I would put that out there. THANK YOU S+W

I have pretty much the same gun as you, and it's never given me a problem. In fact, with the red dot sight on it, it's the most accurate pistol I shoot.

My 40cal CORE has run without any malfunctions. My 9mm CORE is newer and I had 1 malfunction in each of 3 magazines(same actual magazine) Failure to feed after the very first round. Failure to eject on the last round of the next 2 magazines. I am going out next time with a different magazine and ammo. I also worry that the slide may be a little on the light slide with the lightening cuts and might affect cycling. This makes me a bit unsettled. It is a little bit snug going into battery and I am hoping that a little more shooting will resolve the issues.

Just got back from the police range. Even though I'm retired they let me shoot at their indoor range when ever I want. Sure beats commercial shooting ranges, plus I can retrieve all my brass.
I ran my new CORE performance center .40 cal long slide with the 40/9mm KKM barrel using my 124gr. reloads. Absolutely flawless function and point of impact is exactly the same as my KKM .40cal barrel at 17yrds. 3" ten shot group at that distance.
Next, after polishing the feed ramp on my new CORE 9mm 4.25" it functioned perfectly and had a 4" ten shot group, again at 17yrds. Using open sights. I installed the Apex flat face trigger with the competition kit springs. Just guessing but I'd say 2-3lbs and I love it.

That's what I like to hear. Wait until you put a red dot on it. Not everyone likes it, but for me that is the ultimate shooting experience.

I went to the range today after cleaning and lubing my CORE. I took a different magazine and new ammo (124g Winchester NATO). The ammo is a little hotter, more like +p. I ran several magazines with no malfunctions. I can now rest in peace.

I have four S&W firearms: Model 22-A, Model 41, Model 629-6, and a new M&P C.O.R.E. I've had three minor issues with my firearms, and all were fixed at no charge. S&W even sent me two recoil springs and buffers for my 22-A when I could not find them anywhere else. There is a reason I keep buying S&W.
