New M&P owner

Hi all, I am a new proud owner of an M&P 22, 9mm standard and 9mm shield. I've shot at least 100 rounds in each and am very satisfied with the ergonomics and accuracy of each one.

I acquired the 9mm 4.25" yesterday and shot it for the first time today. After bench resting the gun to verify the sights I shot it 2 handed offhand at 20y and put 10/10 inside an 8 inch target 7/10 of which were inside a 6 inch concentric circle that I was aiming at. One thing I noticed was that the trigger is NOTHING like the rental gun I first shot. It has a very distinctive reset, not quite the same as a glock but as much if not better than my shield. The take-up still is a little gritty but did not bother me in the least.

The only bad thing was out of 80 rounds I got 2 FTFs. I'm hoping that was a function of the ammo and not the gun. I was shooting freedommunitions remanufactured. I have never had an issue with this ammo with my sigs/glocks or my shield, but for some reason this M&P 9mm didn't like 2 of the rounds. I inspected the ammo that failed to feed and I noticed that the bullet nose was heavily dented. I guess I'll have to try different brands to see how it goes.

Still very happy with my new toys! Definitely switching to the M&P for IDPA.

Nice family of pistols! My guess is the FTF was the ammo. I have had zero issues with my shield and compact with factory new and my reloads. It should be easy to test that theory with other ammo. I'd still like to get an M&P 22. Oh well some day.

Congrats on the pistols! Let us know how things turn out with the 9 and ammo. I have an M&P22, and just ordered a FS9 yesterday.

Failure to Feed, it just might be the feed ramp needs some breaking in or even under powered ammo. Will have to keep an eye on it.

I'm sure your FS 9 is fine, only misfires I've ever had were ammo related (had 2 boxes of bad ammo, caused issues in several pistols that never have issues). enjoy!

Welcome to the family of M&P ownership. I have a FS 40 with a 9 replacement barrel and a Shield in 9mm. I had 1 round FTF in the 40 the very first time I shot a magazine through it. That was last year in July shortly after I bought it. None since in either!

I'm sure it was an ammo problem. To be on the safe side a polish job on the feed ramp can't hurt.

I was told by a reputable gunsmith most NIB S/A's need +/- 500 rnds shot down range for good break-in. He told me a few minor malfxns before 500 is usually not a sign of concern. Well after 500 possibly a red flag.

The gun shouldn't need any "break in" and should work right out of the box.

I had a similar issue with my M&P .45 FS. Eventually I installed a new extractor and polished the chamber. Since that I haven't had a single feeding issue. In fact, the gun hasn't has a single issue of any kind since I got the feeding problem worked out.

Thanks for the kind words/welcomes/congratulations and reassurances about the failurel! Now to find magazines, I just saw on gunbroker/ebay that the 17 rounders are going for over $100!?!? Tempted to sell my 2 to defray the cost of the gun and just wait out the storm... (NOT!!!). I also read the 10 rounders have issues actually loading 10 cartridges!?!? Going to be interesting competing in IDPA with only 1 extra mag!

Anyone have issues with where their M&P 9s eject? Mine tosses every shell right into my face. My Shield ejects normally though getting the last round in either the 7 or the 8 round mag is a real bear! Browning High Power never any issues of any sort.

None of my M&P's have this problem. On my Glock G23 I have had spent casings fall on my noggin tho.

My FS 9 did this as well for the first few hundred rounds. My extractor had a small piece of metal lodged in the hook. With the piece stuck in there other debris from shooting built up over time . If you have something like a dental pick put a good light on your extractor and see if it has any debris built up. Mine doesn't throw cases in my face now but it's not a hearty ejector either. It is however very predictable. Almost all cases go in a bucket about 2.5 feet off my right heel.

New M & P Onwer +

I have a 9 M & P and a Shield M & P - haven't put many rounds downrange as yet, but I love what I see so far - just picked up a BG 380 and excited about getting that to the range ASAP - I guess I'm a S & W guy now - thinking about adding a M & P AR-15 model to my arsenal - has anyone had experience with the M & P AR-15? - if it's anything like the above models i.e. quality & craftsmanship, how could I go wrong?

also, has anyone fired a .380 P+ round through their BG? - is it recommended and can it be done? - the sales person where I bought the BG told me that is what sets this rocket pocket pistol apart from the other brands - is this true?

M&P 15t, M&P15-22 & M&P 9mm

Hey guys I have a few questions for the community. Being that I love the M&P 15-22 I have so much I decided I wanted a S&W ar15 as well. After months of not being able to find the M&P15t I decided to build a ar15. I bought a M&P Lower and installed some magpul furniture. This morning my wife surprised me with a receipt for a M&P15t upper she bought online from natchez shooters supply. My wife does not like firearms but made my week this week when she said she wanted to learn to shoot. So I was really impressed by her purchase of this part.... So now I have a complete M&P15 to with a 1:8 twist. On top of my surprise my wife wanted a pistol of her own. So we found ourselves at Gander mountain today. I recently traded my Taurus pt 92 9mm for 2 ar lowers last week so since I had all this 9mm ammo and no gun we decided to get matching 9's. Low and behold we went with good old S&W. Pretty awesome day for my wife allowing me to buy these firearms today.We were gonna get a M&P 22 pistol also but we could not source any magazines so we decided to wait on that purchase

Anyhow here are the questions:
1. What is the best ammo and gr count to shoot the M&P15t that has a 1:8 barrel twist?
2. What are normal Prices for the M&P 22 & M&P 9mm magazines before all this craziness?
3. Anyone know of a place to buy M&P magazines that are not gouging?

You can't directly compare the M&P with the Hi Power. Two completely different guns. The Hi Power is a precision instrument and the M&P is...well...not so precise.

Mine doesn't throw cases in my face now but it's not a hearty ejector either. It is however very predictable. Almost all cases go in a bucket about 2.5 feet off my right heel.

This is not good and may cause problems down the road. The M&P should send the cases about 6-8 feet and to your right. If it's not extracting and ejecting the cases with authority, it could malfunction.

It never has with over 1600 rounds. Should I look into a new extractor and or ejector? Thanks I know it doesn't seem right.
