Picked up a new M&P Performance Center 15-22 two days ago.
It took a long time to clean the bore. Hoping that it will perform nicely when I get it dialed in with the supplied sights. I have a Nikon P-223 scope that I purchased at a Pawn Shop for $40.
New without the box. Never mounted. Great deal! I will mount it
on the M&P, bore sight it and get it dialed in soon. If the M&P zeros as well as my old JC Higgins .22 auto that my Dad bought for me when I was 10 years old I will be happy.
Sears and Roebuck had 2 left at half price. He got it for $20.
Think Remington made it. Still have it. A great Squirrel and walnut popping rifle!

Pardon my ignorance but if the rifle was new, what took so long cleaning the bore? why did it need cleaning?

Ah right, nice to know they are tested. What is the trigger like on the PC...what lbs/grams does it break at?

Congrats on the new PC 15-22. My PC took six to seven patches to clean up, seems the PC models are test fired from the carbon on the breech face.
Here's mine in it's new case.
Let see your new addition.

Every new firearm should be cleaned ... To remove excess lube, to remove any debris left over from machining, to immediately familiarize yourself with the disassembly procedures ...

maybe its just the pics but it sure doesn't even look inches (The barrel) ...

I always break down every new and old firearm to give it a good cleaning before trying it out. The worst one I worked on was my Grandson's New England Arms .223 barrel. Wondered how long
it would take after using many bronze brush strokes and patches.
I recommend that everyone do the same. Take care of your firearms properly and they will take care of you when you need them most.
In a few days I will be shooting my new M&P 15-22 on targets for the first time with friends also firing it. We will be using the supplied sights.
A scope will be mounted later on when I get the necessary rings.
Take care, all of you reading this. Join the NRA.

I'd like to know, too. Even if you don't remove the barrel from the receiver it should only take, oh, about 3 minutes to run a brush, than a patch through the barrel...

How many are many? There is such a thing as overkill.

Here's what i do:

1) Run a solvent soaked patch through on a jag, and let it soak while I scrub the bolt.

2) Run the bore brush through twice - in, out, in, out. That's ALL the way; do NOT change directions with brush in bore.

3) Run clean patches through until they stop coming out dirty.

4) All done with bore.

Take care of your firearms properly and they will take care of you when you need them most.

Preachin' to the choir, brother...
