I purchased my new M&P15T a few weeks ago, and have so far put about 200 rounds through it. I have been shooting .223 Wolf Polyformance through it. The ammo runs great, no FTF's no FTE's or anything, it all goes bang. I am not running an optic, just running the MBUS it came with. I "zeroed" the best I could at 50 yards, but none of my groups are consistent, 3 inches if I'm lucky. I don't think I'm doing anything wrong, I'm not new to shooting, but this is my first AR. I'm holding the same every time, a 6'oclock hold. I guess my question is, is it the ammo, me, the gun just isn't broken in, or what is making my groups inconsistent? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have only ever shot about 20rds of Wolf out of my 15TS and wasn't overly impressed with the accuracy. If I had to guess I'd say a better brand would group better. That's the first thing I'd try. Even PMC Bronze would probably be a step in the right direction w/o getting into a lot of expense while experimenting.

From where are you shooting? Shoulder fire, bench with a rest/bags or bi-pod, prone with a bipod?

Yes, Wolf isn't the best ammo. It should give better than 3" at 50 yards though. If you are shoulder firing, that's not bad. You're not going to impress anyone with that, but it's not awful. If you are shooting from a more secure position then it's probably the ammo, with a touch of not being broken in (although usually the M&P15's shoot pretty well out of the box).

It might be an ammo issue aside from cheap ammo. What I mean by that is your particular rifle just might not like Wolf, where if you shot some Tulammo or other russian steel cased stuff it might give you better results. Not great results mind you because none of them are known for super consistancy, but better than 6 MOA (which is what 3" groups at 50 yards is).

+1 on the PMC Bronze line. Can usually be found pretty economically and is pretty decent. At least it has been for me. I've had really good results with Winchester 5.56mm 55gr FMJ, but it's usually at least $12 a box, and I hate paying more than $.50 a round. Prefer paying $.40 or less.

I've been shooting from all kinds of different positions, both supported and unsupported and still get about the same results. Yeah, I'm going to go pick up some PMC later today and try that, hopefully I'll get some more consistent hits!

Post your results please! And have fun. :)

Finally got some decent ammo, and some time to go shoot. I was finally able to start getting some consistent shots. At about 50 yards, i was all in a 2 in circle, and that's good enough for me! I don't know if it was me, the rifle wasn't broken in good, or what, but it's working great now! Even with wolf i was getting tight groups!

I bought a 'T' in July and have plans for a new TG in the very near future.
Actually, 2 TG cuz I want the same TG in my 15/22, also.

There is a 1lb difference in the trigger pull between the two, both being factory TGs. My 'T' breaks at 6.3 lbs, the 15/22 at 7.3 and both are really stiff for my taste.

I've found that my most accurate shooting with light pull rifles happens when I just think about pulling and bang!

But, 2"-3" groups @ 50-100yds is waaaay good enough for hitting Zombies in the head and besides that, they move so slowly it's practically like shooting paper at the range.

Check your breathing, trigger finger placement and basic shooting habits prior to sending those rounds down range. Be consistant...

Ammo can be it's own problems.

Went shooting again and this time i was getting >1 in groups at 50 yards, all in the bulls-eye! Thanks for all the comments, but I think I've got it down now!

Glad to hear. Do you think it was the rifle not being broken in, ammo, or just you getting used to the way the rifle shoots?

I think a small part would be it not being broken in and a bigger part being me not used to how the AR platforms shoot.
