I decided I wanted a M&P40c, and I found a good deal on a new SKU 11678, the LE-only model that comes with 3 mags and night sights. Got it home and cleared it. Headed to the range that night.
After putting about 100 180gr FMJ through it, I switched to my JHPs. It liked 180gr Speer Gold Dot and Federal HST, but when I loaded some 180gr Hydra Shoks, it jammed on the 3rd or 4th round in three mags in a row. In two of the instances, it jammed up when I tried to resume firing with the mags. I went back to FMJ to end the range trip.
I cleaned it up again, and shot it Saturday. Since my other .40's have never had an issue with these Hydra Shoks, I just left them at home.
This time I shot more 180gr Speer Gold Dots and Federal HSTs. I also had some 155gr Federal HSTs. All total, it's fired at least 30 rds each of the 180gr Speers and HSTs and 50 rds of the 155gr HSTs. Not a single issue there. All JHP firings were done with the firearm fully loaded, 13+1.
Given the definite difference in the bullet shape of the Hydra Shoks vs all of the other JHPs shot, I'm chalking it up to that straight conical shape when all of the others are rounded.
I really love how it feels. Recoil was fine. The trigger break/force felt the same as my Shield 1.0, but the there is more take up to get to that point. I prefer this new one.
It came with two grip extenders for using 15 rd mags. I wasn't expecting that. Nice touch, S&W!
I took the Shield Saturday, and after firing the M&Pc, I was surprised how tame the Shield felt. S&W knocked it out of the park when they made the Shield. I'll feel guilty leaving it behind when the M&Pc spends the day with me. But 13+1 sure beats 6 and 7 +1!
