Finally got to the range to try out my new M&P9 Fullsize. I have never shot a 9mm before I purchased this one and previously had the Sigma .40cal. It fits my hand better than ANY gun I have ever held. I like all of the grips actually but the medium seems best for me. First thing I noticed was the accuracy right out the box. No adjustments necessary and I was consistently shooting (slow fire) 3" 5-shot groups out to 20yds. (which is very good for me) Quite impressed with the accuracy...MUCH better than my Sigma (probably a combo of less flinch on my part and the superior weapon). Recoil is nice also compared to the .40 but that is to be expected. The girlfriend is much more comfortable with the 9mm now also so hopefully I'll get her out there more often too

I only got to run 100rds through but it functioned flawlessly (no brass-face either) I was using lightweight Blazer Brass 115gr FMJ and Winchester 115gr SXZ FMJ. Similar results with both.
Overall I have to say I LOVE this gun (so far) I am extremely pleased with the performance and with my choice of 9mm (I was hesitant to drop the caliber...price and recoil made me choose the 9) If you are on the fence...buy this gun...you won't regret it and if there are any problems S&W will take care of you.
I am thinking of adding a front only night sight and perhaps a NoShok? recoil reducing spring (even though its not really needed) but dont know much about them...I hear they make it function smoother overall...true? worth it? Recommendations anyone?

Oh, before I do any of the above to it I was thinking of the S&W M&P Action Package...polished ramp, tuned action (whatever that means) and performance center sear. Does this reduce reliability (performance sear is what I am referring to)? Worth $100? Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated as I am relatively new to handguns and very new to the M&P. Thanks guys.

FYI...the Lasermax rail mounted lasers do not fit on an M&P9. I had to sell mine because the rear of it hits the trigger guard where it starts to curve...just barely but it wont fit.

Hey - I love mine!

Glad you love yours too!

And PS - your girlfriend might just adopt it and you'll have to buy a second one.

Never had the need for an action/trigger job..just shot my M&P 40 a lot (over 5000 rounds) and it keeps on getting better and better. Take the money that you would have spent on the action/trigger work and buy more ammo and dry fire when you are NOT on the range....You will not regret it!

Not for the M&P.
As they say in Jersey, "fuggitaboutit."
If the M&P 9mm is kicking too much, you're holding it wrong (unless you have a hand disability like RA).

The recoil spring is there for the proper function of the gun, not shooter comfort. Start modifying it at your peril. Get a spare stock spring and keep it until you need it, after many thousands of shots.

I prefer a 124grain bullet in the M&P9. I think the recoil feels stouter and more solid instead of snappy and stinging, and seems more controllable to me.

Personal preference.

Ive heard this more than once and the one I rented at the range (over a year old and shot thousands and thousands of rds) had an Amazing trigger. It seems like they break in very nicely.
I think Ill just leave it stock as nothing is wrong with it and I love it the way it is. Thanks for the advice.
