New M&P9c:
Function test went flawlessly yesterday. Put a couple boxes of ball ammo through it with no issues. The stock trigger on this M&P was better than the gritty, heavy stock trigger on mynM&P9 full size pistol. It took 10-15 rounds to find a consistent grip, after which I was able to keep most every round inside a 3" radius around the bullseye from a distance of 21 feet, most shots at a brisk pace, some double-tapped (excepting a few flyers here and there from pushing the pistol). I shoot well with my full size M&P9 so I was rather expecting to do well with the compact. So far I'm very pleased with this pistol and my performance with it. It's fun to shoot with this pistol!
I just finished installing an Apex DCAEK/RAM combo and Ameriglow / Bowie Tactical classic Tritium night sights this afternoon - installation went smoothly. This pistol now matches my ful size M&P9's configuration almost exactly. The only difference (aside from the shorter barrel/slide and grip/magazine) is that the Ameriglo sights I installed on the compact have a green tritium front sight dot and yellow tritium rear sight dots. The sights on my full size have green/green tritium dots. Both work well and I haven't yet decided which I might prefer. The contrast makes the front sight dot stand out but the yellow tritium is dimmer than the green (may lose usable light sooner than the green). Time will tell. I can wait 10 or so years for an answer - a curiosity at best.
I'm going to try to get back to the range tomorrow to put a few hundred more rounds through it, including some defensive ammo, to ensure it will function reliably and to select a defensive round to use with the compact. Once I'm confident that it may be relied upon it will become my every day carry CCW, replacing the Kel-Tec PF-9 I've been carrying the past few years. The PF-9 has run flawlessly for a couple thousand rounds now and is a dependable CCW. I am able to shoot with it well enough to carry it with confidence. This said I HATE training with the PF-9. I have an arthritic condition that makes shooting a bit more challenging than it used to be. My PF-9 exhibits enough trigger lash for it to cause me significant discomfort and fatigue sets in quickly. I'll keep the PF-9 for concealed carry when carrying the M&P9 is impractical (light summer clothing, etc.) and shoot with it just enough to maintain proficiency. I'm very much looking forward to training with a CCW that I really enjoy shooting. Work=play -- just as it should be.
ETA: I own four Smith & Wesson firearms - M&P9, M&P9c, M&P15T, and a 4506. After more than 8,000 rounds through these guns I have yet to experience a single malfunction attributable to any of them (I've limp-wristed the 4506 a couple times causing a feed malf if memory serves me right, and the CMMG .22 conversion kit I occasionally use in my M&P15T has had a couple feed malfuncions). This coupled with S&W's warranty and excellent customer service keeps me coming back. Well, the firearms themselves are what have drawn me in, especially the M&P pistols. They're all I shoot anymore it seems.
