It seems that MecGar now has new 5906 10 round magazines with Plastic extension (see attached). These are obviously not the normal all metal MecGar magazines - wondering if anyone has any experience with this version.

My Walther P88C and P99 both came with Mec-Gar magazines made just like that during the Clinton ban - they worked flawlessly.

Mecgar Mags

These are good quality mags and they function well, however I broke a piece off the front doing mag change indoors. I contacted Mecgar to see if they had replacement plastic and they never replied - poor customer service!

Bought two Mecgars for a 6906. I should of sent them back. Had to do a rediculous amount of work to them, break sharp corners a LOT, as in round over the corners, as well as take quite a bit off the weld joint before they would even go in the well, then work them even more to drop out. Thankfully had two Smith mags to work from.

Was very disappointed in the Mecgar mags. Ya, that was rediculous.

I've always found Mecgars to perform flawlessly. They are OEM for several gun companies (not sure about S&W) and they have a great reputation. I'm very surprised at both posts with negative information, but then again I've never needed those neutered mags - perhaps the design, with the large plastic piece to render them state law compliant, is something of a weak spot. Are you in a state that limits magazine capacity?

I have MecGar 10 rounders for my 5906TSW, plus my Sig P226 and CZ Shadow 2. I also have 10 round SW99 mags for my MR9 which I assume are MecGars as well. They are awesome, especially here in NJ where we're stuck with #%^* 10 round mags and blocking normal mags off to 10 rounds is often more expensive than new MecGars.

Where are there new Mecgar mags for the 6906? And are these 10- or 12-rds?
My initial question was experience with the new "hybrid" Metal / Plastic magazines that I just saw advertised this week as 6906 with 10 rd capability - basically a metal 10 rd section plus one of two interchangeable plastic bases - short for 6906 / long for 5906.

These are being sold as MecGar. Robertsons (TN) also show a 12 rd version for 6906. These may be available elsewhere. Not sure about the 6906 12 rd as the metal section appears to be KelTec, while the metal section for the 10 rd seems to be stamped MecGar.

Personally I have always had good luck with the all metal MecGar magazines for 5906 but I had never seen MecGar for 6906 or the hybrid version with the interchangeable plastic base extensions. Hence the question.

MecGar are OEM for some Walther pistols like my P99AS. No problems ever with them. Ditto the 15rd mags currently available for the 5906.

Thank God that PA isn't like it's neighboring states and there are no mag restrictions.

In fact. I sold all my OEM S&W 10rd mags to a fellow forum member who lives in California.

Mec Gar made the original Kel Tec P-11 mags. Mine even have the Mec Gar logo on them. Those Robertson Trading Post mags are essentially P-11 10 or 12 rd mags with a custom plastic extension.

I have a P-11, a 6906 and a 5906 (with second 5906 coming next week) The longer mags all work in a shorter pistol. I planned it that way. I'm no dummy. I DO need a 32 rd 59xx magazine so I can at least take a pick of it in a P-11.

National 10rd mag. capacity is coming soon. I bought several 10rd mags before they become scarce and the price triples.
