Hello, Name is Mark hail from New England

I recently obtained a model 27-2 with six inch barrel and have an issue. Its in overall 95-97% condition lockup and timing are solid but occasionally the cylinder release latch catches and the cylinder won't open and it appears to occur only on one chamber on the cylinder and not the others. It isn't catching on the ejector rod at all. I am able to cock the hammer and rotate the cylinder and the latch then operates normally opening the cylinder. Also when this occurs there is a feeling like something is binding in the mechanism but if I simply rock the cylinder from side to side with my fingers and wiggle it a bit, without cocking the hammer it will eventually release whatever is going on inside the release mechanism. Does anyone have any ideas? I am more of a do it yourself kind of guy and would rather not send it in to S&W or to a gunsmith if I can easily do this myself.

Welcome to the forum from Ohio. You might want to ask your question in the revolver section where the revolver guys hang out. Good luck!

New member myself. The very first thing to check is if the ejector rod is coming unscrewed and if the cylinder release thumb piece screw is coming loose. After that the analysis becomes more complex and may require the knowledge and tools to fully disassemble the cylinder and trigger mechanism, such discussion being beyond the scope of the welcome area.

Welcome!
