I am fairly new to handguns first off but consider myself a fast learner. My wife bought me an early Christmas present. The SD40VE which I love but I am having one small issue. I took my 10 year old son with me to the range to put some rounds through this gun and we had a blast. The issue was everytime I got to the last round in the mag I would get a failure to feed. I'm pretty sure this is on my part "limp wristing" or whatever it is called. Because my son only had it happen to him once. I'm thinking because he had a death grip on the gun where I was a little more relaxed. Is there something else that could be causing this?

Did this happen with the same mag everytime, or were you using multiple mags.

Why I ask is if it was only with one mag, it could be a magazine related issue.

If it happened with all mags, then it is probably you.

from "wild and wonderful " West Virginia at least that's what they tell us.

If it doesn't happen with your son shooting limp wristing could happen. Then again whether the first or last round it could still FTF. Try shooting from a sand bag to see if it still does it or let someone else at the range try just to make sure it's not the firearm.

What ammunition are you using?

When you say "failure to feed" is the slide still back or is the chamber closed and empty?

The first 50 rds were brazer and the second 50rds were manufactured reloads. Both did the same thing. Only on the last round in the mag would it jam the slide would hang up halfway looks like it was hanging on the feed ramp.

Just a few thoughts...

To eliminate the shooter variable, next time you go to the range, have another shooter try the gun and see if the problem happens.

Did you clean and lube the gun before going to the range?

Try some quality, full power ammo.

If possible, buy a third mag and see if the problem persists.
