Welcome from a former NY resident that escaped the gulag for free America. My only advice is as soon as you can leave NY and don't look back.
I understand some people are sometimes stuck there due to work or family, but if that is not your case come taste freedom outside NY.

If not for my girlfriend I would have been out of here a long time ago. Her only daughter and 8 year old granddaughter are here and I wouldn't ask her to leave them.
