My late husband passed away in 2009 and, believe it or not, I've only just gotten around to making a complete inventory of his (my) guns (along with my current husband's--thanks in advance for condolences, but I got lucky and met another wonderful man). I also spent quite a bit of time matching my late husband's extensive holster collection to the guns.

He was a big fan of Smith & Wessons, and my first and second guns were S&Ws (a Model 60 and a Model 14). I used to do quite a bit of shooting (even a little bit of competitive shooting at the very lowest level, with my Model 14; I even won a trophy), although my current husband and I are trying to get back into it. Interestingly, I have mostly pistols and my current husband has mostly long guns, so between us we've got a pretty nice collection. We've just completed the requirements for the Idaho enhanced CCW permit and should have the permits in hand in a few weeks (we both have the regular permits; the enhanced ones are new).

The most immediate reason I've joined is that I've got one set of holsters that I'm pretty sure were all for the same gun that none of my current guns fit. I vaguely recall my late husband having a very small .25 or .22 semi-automatic at one point, but I don't remember anything about it except that it was really small. I think it was a .25 because I hadn't heard of such a thing until I met him (I really didn't get into guns until I met him, but I'd heard about the most common calibers). He must have sold it at some point, possibly to get some money for the last gun he ever bought (which arrived the day after he died), a S&W Model 29 Mountain Gun (he also had a "Dirty Harry" holster made for it, which also arrived after he died). Anyway, I've been trying to figure out what the little pistol he had was. Possibly, it was a S&W model 61 Escort or a Colt 1908? I've got several small .380s, but they are too big than the holsters.

This is probably crazy, but if I posted some pictures of the holsters with dimensions, would it be possible to figure out what the gun was that went with them? I really liked that little gun (even though I can't remember what it was), and wouldn't mind trying to find another. Can't let all those holsters go to waste!:p

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Judy

Howdy from Ohio...good to have you in the house! You will want to post your questions/pics/info in the right section of the forum...which would be the revolver section. You'll get better traffic and thus more insight/answers there. Lots of helpful and knowledgeable people there. Good look!

Sorry to har about your loss Judy. Welcome aboard from the great state of Pennsylvania!

Welcome from Wisconsin, Judy! It sounds like you inherited a nice bunch of S&W. Now get out & shoot them, lol. Your late husband would be proud.

Thanks everyone. Srings--in the revolver forum? The model 61 is a semi-auto. I'll go looking for a semi-auto forum. If I have any questions about the revolvers, I'll look for the revolver forum. Thanks, though!

MSG Glenn, I almost hate to shoot some of them, they're so nice! By the way, my late husband was Army, 1st Cav, flying LOH in Vietnam.

VPNAVY, thanks but as I said, I got lucky and met another wonderful man.

WA concealed carry

welcome from Washington....I was born and grew up in beautiful north Idaho...hope you find your answers here

jimmib--My husband and I just submitted our applications for the Idaho enhanced CCW permit. Once we get them, we'll be able to carry in Washington, which is a good thing since we live about 8 miles from the border.

I used to live in Arizona and got a CCW permit as soon as they instituted them back in the 90s. One of the things that has been really exciting to me is how many states now have them and, even more so, how fast reciprocity is spreading. With the Idaho enhanced, I'll be able to carry in about 38 states. Practically unheard of less than 20 years ago. The biggest problem I have now is California. My elderly parents live there and I try to visit them several times/year because they're not going to be around forever. I can get there carrying if I go through Nevada, but once I get to the border, I'm stuck. I also go down through Oregon; next time I do, I'm going to stop and apply for an OR permit. They don't have reciprocity with anyone, but they do issue to out-of-staters.

Judy....I also am getting my Utah CCW and am going to get an Oregon non-resident....I have my Washington CPL and Idaho recognizes it...California and New York are going to be a problem for a long time I'm afraid....enjoy your guns

Utah didn't give me anything I wanted that the Idaho enhanced did not give me, so I opted not to apply for the Utah permit. Maybe I'll see you in an Oregon sheriff's office!

Welcome aboard from Florida the "GunShine" state.

State of over "1 MILLION 120 THOUSAND" Concealed Carry Licenses and counting!

Thanks, Moondawg. I doubt there are that many in Idaho, but then again the total population of Idaho is only about 1.8 million. I'll bet as a percentage we're right up there!

One more vote to go, but Idaho is about to pass a law allowing concealed carry on college campuses. It's been amusing to watch my liberal colleagues (I used to teach at the university, so my colleagues are approximately 99% liberals) go bananas. Nevermind that Utah did the same thing a couple of years ago with zero issues, so far as I know. And everyone also conveniently forgets that the concealed carry isn't available to anyone under 21 anyway, so all the dire warnings about drunken frat boys (a) are wrong and (b) silly anyway because, as we all know, if a drunken frat boy were determined to shoot something up, a rule wouldn't stop him.

Welcome from Texas Judy. Great forum for all things S&W, have fun, learn lots, share what you know.

I don't know much, not about guns anyway.

BTW, I think I figured out what a couple of the unidentified holsters were for: a NAA .32 Guardian. After reading some reviews of it, I don't think I'm going to replace it.
