Hey there, everyone! My name is Cody, and I'm from south MS.

I joined this forum after recently acquiring my first S&W revolver on a whim. It was a completely blind purchase, but with the help of the fantastic folks on this forum, I was able to learn so much about my gun. The folks that replied to my ID request post were extremely knowledgeable, and they informed me that I acquired a .38 Military & Police, 4th change, most likely from 1917. The gun has been fitted with more modern stocks from the '60s, and it has been reblued.

This gun brought me to the forum, but I think I'm here to stay now. Glad to be a member!

Welcome, and howdy from Hattiesburg, by way of Iraq!

You ever go down to the Black Creek Range a bit southeast of Brooklyn? I've been shooting there since the 1990s, and it's still a good place to go burn up ammo. There's a few knuckleheads who trash the place every so often, so I carry big lawn & leaf bags to collect up as much as I can when I go. They've put a dumpster by the parking area, so I don't have to haul the trash as far anymore!

Glad to see more Mississippians here!

I haven't ever been to that range, but it sounds like I'm going to have to make a trip up there soon. Thank you for letting me know about it! Seems the trash issue is prevalent pretty much everywhere these days. Common courtesy isn't so common for some folks I guess. When I pay a visit, I'll have to bring a trash bag with me.

It's only about a hundred yards and a bit, maybe 110-115, and has a huge dirt berm at the end. In recent years, they installed a covered shooting area, complete with a bench and prone position stand, which was a nice surprise last time I went. Back in the 90s, it was just a cut out gravel pit and a few creosote poles to staple up targets, all of which got shot so often that they disintegrated.

You can shoot pretty much whatever you want, however you want out there. It's "big boy rules," and sometimes "little boys" come out to play, and get a little rambunctious, which at that point, I just pack up and leave. The travails of free public ranges, I suppose.

Still, the more decent people who go, participate in keeping it up, and enjoy it for what it is means that the US Forest Service will keep it open for us, which is a win for everyone.
