Hi Steve,

Welcome from Illinois! I have visited Washington State a few times, and it is nice. The Columbia River Gorge is great!

Welcome from Texas Steve. Great forum for all things S&W, have fun, learn lots, share what you know.

I find that a strong phrase like "Shoo bear", or "Go away bear", works best.

Hope you find this helpful.

There were over 80 bear encounters in 30 days at this camp site.
We tried Bull strength electric fences and that useless bear repellant pepper spray.
Nothing worked.
Unfortunately, one got aggressive and had to be shot.
I've never had a 44 magnum feel so small.
