While I belong to many forums and have been an avid firearms collector since I was 16, this is my first post to this forum with a new handgun to boot! See my profile for the gory details... At long last I found a brand new Model 25-15. Serial #CVB136* . Caliber .45 Colt. I think the older version of this handgun was known as a Model 1955 Target. Can someone tell me something about the revolver I have just purchased? I am very impressed with the physical appearance of this handgun. I am a cast bullet shooter and I can guarantee that there will thousands of reasonable loads run through it! Thanks very much!

Welcome to this awesome forum. Congrats on your first S&W N Frame. Did
You shoot her yet? I'm a noobie to s&w revolvers too. I like the older revolver K frames in 22lr & in 38 special. I also like the s&w n frames from any year and model. The n frames I find them well balanced. I been shooting 44mag rugers for about four decades. I'm just new to s&w.

Pull up a comfy chair, get a coffee or cold one and stay a while here. Don't be afraid to ask questions here too these guys won't bite you. There very polite and kind here.

Welcome to the forum, and welcome to the world of N-Frames. I love the .45 Colt cartridge and N-Frames! Here is a 25-9 I picked up late last year. It looked hardly used at all and it shoots great.

Since you are a handloader, here is a link you might find worthwhile:
Gunnotes...Smith & Wesson Mod 25-5 By: John Linebaugh

Mr. Linebaugh, somewhat of an expert on big bore revolvers, discusses the Model 25 and the .45 Colt cartridge at length.

Great reading about the 45 long colt. I have considered on adding a s&w m 25 to round out my 6"/6 1/2" collection. I've always considered the difference between a slower moving bigger heavier bullet to be like a freight train and the faster moving bullets like a trailer truck. The freight train takes its time when slowing down. As where the lighter trailer truck stops quicker.

Has anyone done ballastics gel tests on the difference in length of travel and effects of the standard handgun calibers vs magnum calibers?

Welcome from Missouri! I am a new user as well, or should I say new poster! I have been on here many nights just to read and learn, and I'll tell you what, there are some great people on here. I have a question for someone if they could help me with something. I have a S&W Model 610 NO DASH that I am wanting to put a different front sight on. They want to know if it is .250 or .300" high? After measuring it, I would guess it is .300, as it measures 5/16th of an inch at the highest point, but it would be nice to know before I ordered it If anyone knows for sure. This is probably a stupid question to most of you, but I would rather hear if from someone that knows, than to order the wrong front sight! Thanks, and Happy 2014 to all!
