Hello all! Picked up a new M&P 15OR Wednesday as my Christmas present. The wife insists on wrapping it up so no chance to shoot until after Christmas lol! I'm excited to have it though. I looked at many different brands but decided on the S&W for several reasons. First was that I really couldn't find a bad review of it that didn't also include accolades for S&W's customer service. Second was the recommendation from a LGS that I trust. And finally was the fact that the price really wasn't much more than other brands that I honestly new little about.

I compared to Bushmaster, PSA, RRA, and one or two others. I added an inexpensive red dot sight to tide me over until I decide whether something more expensive is worth it. Also added a couple more 30 round pmag's. Very happy to finally be a member of the EBR club.

To round out the introduction thread I'm 39, married to a wonderful wife of 13 years, a wonderful 10yo daughter who's trying my patience(:)), and a 7yo son who is beginning to become enamored with all things guns. As for other hobbies I have a small salt water fish tank, enjoy scuba diving, and have a small 5" telescope.

Looking forward to learning more about the M&P!
Jason

Welcome, congrats and tell your wife you have to shoot it to make sure it works and can be returned for another one if somethings wrong ;) or buy a razor blade, carefully cut the tape, unwrap it, shoot it and re-wrap it, just like when you were a kid at Christmas :D
Now to fill your stocking with ammo and things to hang on it. You will learn a lot from everyone here. I'm a newbie to the AR and have learned from everyone sharing their knowledge.
If I could take mine diving I would :)
Enjoy it

JRader...welcome to the club, I agree with Shinny, you must tell your wife that you really need to "break it in" before Christmas in case of any issues (LMAO) the only issues will be the fact you will now need a 15-22 for your son so he can go shooting with Dad. I like to think we are a happy helpful little group of people, so come on in, grab a cup of coffee and enjoy yourself!!! :D

Welcome! I like you am new and just picked up my OR yesterday! I think I held it in my hands for the majority of last night.....I have an issue lol

Welcome JRader.Im pretty new to the AR world myself. The folks here are great, don't hesitate to ask anything that u may think of, somebody will come to the rescue. Enjoy your new toy and be safe!!!
P.S. The M&P 15-22 is a great addition too.Ive got one also, and Im sure your son someday would love to learn and train on.

Yeah, my wife asked me last night if I was done fondling it.

gunsandjeeps, I've looked at .22. Would be far cheaper to go plinking with for sure. Maybe for next Christmas lol!

I think just about everyone in the forum has a .22 of some sort or another. I have 2 both Marlins, a model 60 and a model 795, really inexpensive accurate rifles. But not very good for learning how to shoot an AR with.

Welcome to the AR world, I'm also some what new to the AR-15 and love the rifle in fact my wife has decided after shooting the AR-15 Sport I have that she needs to have her own. Heading out this weekend for the hunt for a second S&W AR-15, wish I could find a T model but it's not looking to good may have to get the OR just to have something differant.

And a warm welcome from "wild and wonderful " West Virginia at least that's what they tell us.
Just take the rifle out of the box and let her wrap the box maybe she won't notice.

My M&P OR has been an outstanding rifle and has exceeded my expectations over and over. After a year in stock form, I just got back from Tactical Machining in Deland, FL where I had them remove my gas block and replace it with a low profile gas block. This has been planned for about 6 months and I finally got around to it. I also have a Sampson EVO 12.37 on the way!!!

In stock form the OR served me well. I added a fixed sight from my M&P 15-22 and realized that I didn't really need a fold down BUIS and it never got in the way of my Primary Arms 30mm Red Dot.

Great AR regardless of model (OR, Sport, T, TS, X, or even VTAC - Sweet!) You'll be happy with your purchase.

Welcome to the M&P 15 forum. You'll see that there are many members to learn from. I have a 15-22 also and you may as well go out and buy one now before the prices go up. That's the excuse I always tell my wife. ;)

Now y'all. If Jason's sweet little southern gal bought him a Smith rifle for Christmas, y'all should stay out of it. Don't give him no crazy ideas. Better off doin' what she says. Love don't come much better. My gal bought me a Sport for our Anniversary this year, by the way.

Me and Jason got's things workin' pretty darn good. Comprende amigo?

I have a Ruger 10/22 for a plinker. But the 15-22 sure would be fun. Budget will likely be spent on ammo and a few accessories for now though. I'm more than comfortable with the purchase though.

I just bought the M&P 15OR online on Wednesday myself. Today my FFL dealer let me know he received it. Unfortunately I couldn't pick it before he closed, so I'm having to wait until tomorrow....arrrrghhh the agony!!

I bought my first AR last November as a Christmas. I left it in the closet until being unwrapped on Christmas, by then you will know almost everything you need to know about your new AR. I did a similar thing in 2002 when I ordered a new diesel pickup truck. We called it a Christmas, birthday and fathers day present jokingly. I ordered it on 12/1 and it didn't arrive to Valentines day the next year. Well worth the wait, I knew the truck better than the dealer when it came in.

Also have to add that my rifle didn't come with a manual. I contacted S&W about purchasing one and they simply asked for my address to mail it. I do need to give mine a good cleaning so that will be an opportunity to learn more.

Congrats on your Christmas present! Plenty of time to stock up on ammo and magazines until you get to unwrap it!

On a side note, love my Marlin 60. It would be nice to get a 15-22, but it's just not at the top of my priority list for now.

Welcome to the M&P-15...well kinda.
I would start making comments about how I sure would like to shoot my rifle or it sure would be nice if I could take my new rifle hunting. Start wearing her down til she broke under the pressure...Then again don't take any marital advice from me. Not if want to stay married that is!

Wraith, I have had the same model 60 for 31 years...I adore that little sharpshooting 22. Sorry for the misdirect OP but I had to make the comment!!! :D
