Greetings and salutations from southeast Michigan. I just purchased a new M&P .40C about 3 months ago, my very first handgun and I'm pretty geeked about it. I've taken it to the range a few times and so far have only put about 200-300 rds. through it but will continue to exploit the opportunity whenever I can.

I've also completed a basic NRA pistol class which was followed by enrollment and completing the NRA-sanctioned CCW class and I've subsequently received my CPL in the mail about a week ago after the requisite 45-day wait period.

Quite frankly, carrying a concealed weapon is very new and rather a foreign feeling to me and I'm far from used to doing it just yet so I'm very curious to hear and read what other forum members have to say about this and how they handled the transition, especially those who, like me, didn't get into gun ownership until later in life (I'm 58!)

As I expected and from what I've read so far, opinions and viewpoints are widely variable on the forum but what comes across pretty clearly in all posts is a palpable eagerness and dedication to handgunning, something that has gripped me as well.

I have a number of specific questions and topics I will raise but for now just wanted to say hi to all.

Thanks for reading.

welcome, also from SE MI

I'm originally from the communist state of Maryland where it's nearly impossible to get a carry permit, so it was a daunting feeling for me too, at first. I felt that any gun no matter how small and well concealed was going to be visible by anyone and everyone; I got over it by carrying a tiny pistol in an interior coat pocket just to get over the psychological hump, think I was afraid of printing more than anything. After a couple days you'll get over it and it'll be no big deal with a full size gun on your hip... at least that was my expereince.

I felt the same way when I first started carrying my snubby. I thought It was printing like crazy and everyone knew I had a gun on my hip. I got over it and now if I don't have my snubby in one of my homemade holsters, a couple of reloads, my pawnshop assisted opening knife and a flashlight, I feel naked.
I've also just finished a leather flashlight holder to free up a little pocket space by carrying my flashlight on my belt on my off side.
